Its hard to keep money in the bank these days, too much cool stuff.

I loved your video. I was trying to figure out how they could sell a working jet engine for $238 and 10% off. Then when I read the web site I realized how it works. It looks like a jet engine, but it isn't. The fuel air mixture burns and turns the wheels but the compressor doesn't actually compress the air. It's a toy but a really cool one. Even looks and sounds like the real thing. Thing that gave it away is the listing for this engine says operating speed is 1000 to 2000 rpm. There is no way a jet engine could ever run at those low rpms. 🙂

Didn’t know so many rocket scientists were in the comment section. It’s a demonstration jet engine - yes it’s still a jet engine, even if compression and thus thrust is low. It’s got all the components going on.

Thanks for the video mate, it’s top of class!

Not a jet engine, nearest description would be miniature industrial space heater.

Looks cool, but seems kind of expensive for a hot air generator that produces no thrust?

That reminds me of the turbine heaters in the old Chevy corvair, the engines were a air cooled Boxter style 👍👍

That's not an engine - it's not burning the fuel to make useable thrust. It's not combustion turning the vanes, it's the air from the electric compressor is spinning them, hence why an Air Bleed is able to control the speed. The fuel is just there to make it smell like it's burning.
If it was a functioning Turbojet, it'd empty that tank in about 10 seconds.

I've owned this for a few months now, but have yet to test it. Still excited to.

One way to increase the maximum speed of the engine while keeping the same air/fuel mixture is to use a higher flow air pump. It should force more vapour into the chamber that way. I was told they supply 15l/m ones with the engine, but you can get more powerful ones. However I highly doubt the manufacturing tolerances with this engine will let it run terribly much faster for very long without it seizing up from overheating. Keep it lubricated with light white oil.

Its true, this particular engine will never take to the skies. However in contrast to some other comments, I'd say its a pretty impressive accomplishment as long as you take the price point into consideration and not compare it to all the other commercial R/C turbines that can start at just under £1000 for a new starter kit.

I think its meant to introduce would be curious people into how gas turbines work, and the low sensitive price point can make it an impulse for some. At least it fufills the main principal at bare minimum to qualify as a simple gas turbine that burns real fuel. If the turbine can generate more rotational power from the combustion than what the electric air pump can supply it, it just about qualifies in my opinion. I even find it impressive they went with a 3 stage axial flow design.

Good video.

wow, a lovely little fan heater, well done

needs much higer compression ratio to actually work like the real thing. Compression heats up the air that is sucked in enough to ignite the fuel that got sprayed in.for that compression ratio must be at least 14 to 1.

I have one of these and after taking it apart and looking at it since it runs off of vapor system it has no real injection of fuel this is simply a mono propellent, hybrid low thrust liquid fueled rocket. There's no real way to install it in an aircraft. There's an argument to be made to say it's a dual fuel because it's bubbling the fuel creating a vapor with the oxidizer oxygen built into it but honestly it's running off 1 fuel. For two hundred bucks it's pretty cool but it's more of a prop.

it is VERY OBVIOUS you have never had a jet engine before ... you have all the stuff you dont want to met routed where they can melt .... especially the fuel line

Well I guess instead of slow brushed dc motor update it to bldc motor that will significantly increase the rpm with increasing performance :)

You need to boost this up and see what kind of thrust you can get out of it 👍

Theres a guy who made a working soda jet engine, it runs on it own power but doesnt last long because the whole engine are made out of aluminum thin can. Im sure if he had this engine with some modification he can make a real high power combustion jet engine capable of pushing few kgs

Does combustion actually increase the rpm of the turbine on this thing? Sounded like it didn't ramp up until you hit the ignition. If so it's a cool little demonstration.
