loved the original series, the 70's netherlands was great, great cars and great characters, i don't think i could watch this though, times have changed so much, women now in serious prominent roles, ethnic minorities the same( all good of course) but doesn't have the great charm of the original, really its just probably yet another modern detective show except its using a classic title from the distant past, i wonder what barry foster would've made of it?

Nicolas Freeling must be spinning in his grave. This action show, from the trailer, feels nothing like the deeply thoughtful somber Van Der Valk mysteries. Even the earlier series from the 1970's missed the mark as well. Freeling's Van Der Valk was married to a wonderful woman and solved cases primarily through interviews. I'd probably enjoy this show a lot more if it dropped any pretence of a relationship to the Van Der Valk novels.
