In October 2021, Austria took a drastic step to tackle carbon emissions in the transportation sector and introduced an innovative measure to promote the use of public transport and thus act against global warming: the “KlimaTicket Ö”. This “climate ticket” allows people to use all public transport in the country for 1,095 euros per year, or three euros per day. In this new video, UMX travelled to Vienna (Austria) to know more about this national unlimited transit pass and understand how it got implemented.

Many thanks to Leonore Gewessler (Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology), Florian Binder (Head of the Mobility & KlimaTicket Department) and Daniel Zindanci (KlimaTicket User) for participating in this video!

As someone who has this ticket, it works well. And austria is already spending a lot into making public transport bigger.

Meanwhile over here in Brexit Britain the rail ticket prices keep rising and they're trying to save money by closing all the ticket offices and scaling back capital expenditure. I guess at least we got £2 bus tickets.
