The 13/14 GT500 has several things over the new one.
1) Manual transmission
2) Approx. 300 pounds lighter
3) Avoids gas tax and gets better MPG
4) More comfortable Recaros
5) Cheaper
6) Stamp of approval from Mr. Shelby himself
7) First to reach 200 mph
8) Easier to work on, less computers
9) Looks like a 60s Mustang
10) Was compared to cars twice it's value at the time and was beating them.

Crazy how you can find these way cheaper then a 6 speed hellcat for similar performance. These are seriously overlooked

I love these older car reviews being peppered in with the usual new car stuff!

I’d take one of these over a new one any day. The looks of the 11-14s are far better.

Got my 2013 a year ago and what a car! Lots of suspension mods so she handles like a beast and it came alive with a 4:10 gear...don't need to go 200!

The last true Shelby Mustang as it was the last released before his death. Rest In Peace Mr. Carroll Shelby

I have a '14 and I absolutely love it! The crazy thing about it is with relatively little money in mods, it cranks out serious power. Pulley, CAI, T/B, tune and you could be pulling around 700rwhp. Plus a LTH and Corsa Extreme exhaust setup make this beast scream!

Sounds so good. Those S197s age gracefully

I like these older car reviews coming back! Been here for almost a decade and feels nostalgic with reviews like this!

You can tell this car is special when the engine's sound over powers Matt's voice. Great car and review.

After 6 years in Germany my family and our '13 Shelby GT500 will be returning to the US in July 2023. She has had a really great time here. Usually, on the autobahn, we average 110-150 MPH. We have been close to 200 MPH for short periods because due to autobahn improvements and repairs you can't go a long way like that and you really don't want to. There has been a movement to take away the unlimited speeds and go with the rest of the EU and have a max speed of 120/130 KPH or 72/78 MPH. I hope, if they do, they wait until July 2023 when we will be gone. The one thing that I still feel uneasy about is passing the Polizei and they don't come after you.

These cars are severely underrated. Start with the Trinity engine, dual-clutch six-speed MANUAL trans, carbon fiber driveshaft, Torsen rear axle. Yeah, the entire drivetrain is unique to the GT500's in '13 & '14. It isn't a huffed and stuffed base engine. Oh, and Ford GT cams. These things are FAST. Mine is bone-stock, 7, 500 miles and I only run 101 octane fuel. I fitted mine with 325 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's on the rear (requires an adjustable track bar). Even with that rubber, it will spin the tires at 80 in 3rd, and not just a little bit. Zero to sixty can be done in first gear. I forgot that in my testing, shifted, cussed, and still ripped a 4.0 flat. I don't have a Hellcat or new GT500, and here's why: Hellcats aren't special enough, they put that engine in EVERYTHING. The new GT500 has no stick shift, an unremarkable engine, is too heavy, and they couldn't even put the rear brake calipers in the proper location. Save your hate mail, lot's of folks like those cars, and that's perfectly fine. My opinion is my own. The 2013 's are special, which is why there are more '14's in the market at any given time. I sometimes think about selling mine, because I'm getting old and worry about my skills being able to handle such a beast. I just can't think of anything I can remotely afford that even comes close.

That happy look on his face every time he pushes the gas pedal says it all.. There's no feeling like that.

Matt, I have been a subscriber since the BRZ days and found you originally from the “how to drive stick shift” video.

You helped solidify my choice in buying my 2010 GT500. Your reviews and personality have been a fixture for my family and I for many years.

Thank you for publishing your journey from BRZ to Mini to Ecoboost to GT to Bullitt. It’s been a great decade and a bit. God bless you and your family.

Those engines were bulletproof and no crazy digital interface.
