"So if you don't know what's going on, it's actually not surprising."
Lol! Just one of many of the reasons why he deserves a prime time comedy show.
It's like a form of highly technical Newfie speak. Brilliant.

Looks just like my phone! My daughter loves the stickers, she's got em stuck everywhere including my phone, tape measure and hard hat.

This rule applies to all nuts and bolts everywhere .... except the one that's waaay out of reach under the double dipshit flange right next to the knuckle shredding, razor sharp, stab manifold. That nut only comes loose suddenly and without any warning usually accompanied by the traditional cry of " AAAARRRggghh you fucker !"

The scope, what a mystical machine. AVE, please teach us about scopes.

Oh AvE, god love ya'. In these vids, you really show us your knowledge, training, skills, and expertise. But you have a Can-Do attitude, and that's what's important.

AvE . You speak to my heart. Where did you learn how to phraise with your most intricate lingo. I find myself using the phrases you use at my place of work and the guys go crazy laughing and under stand what I mean . thank you for teaching me how to better communicate with the boys .

So what you’re saying is it doesn’t take the same mass of the ass to break the bolt as it does to torque it. Isn’t this breaking some type of AvE law of physics? We’ve always been taught the mass of the ass is directly proportional to the angle of the dangle.

Thanks for the info, another gold video.

Another thought on the torque being less undoing is in addition to the ramp factor is when tightening there could well be some twist being imparted to the bolt in the final tightening. That twist gets locked in place with stiction and becomes an assist when undoing.

Man this is truly outfuckingstanding. Love the show .

Made me think of torque to yield fasteners, tightening to a specific tension at which point they actually stretch and are not supposed to be used again once removed because they’ve been permanently altered

Great video. It shows your theory of the bridge failure as well as what happens when you over torque. I have been following news on the bridge and your finding is right on. Keep up the great videos

AvE, congratulations on the popular mechanics shout-out!

That would be interesting to see this test again with the nordlock lock washers. Even a lock washer comparison would be super interesting to see with the instrumentation.

You have such an amazing way at explaining things.... thanks for taking the time to do so.

Would you ever consider doing a live stream?
Not like ask me anything what the others do but more of a shop talk, hang out, drinking games and share funny stories between viewers.
If it was well advertised in advanced, get dewclaw round it would be a blast! ( not king of random style though )

You should pull on that lever arm with a known force of some sort just to make sure that the horrible freight reader is actually working.

EDIT: Oh, you broke that sensor... well, I didn't really care for it anyway.

Nice to see the torque-struct-o-matic out again. Please keep using it. Also, nice AJ stickers

I did a similar experiment in a mechanics of materials class, except it had to do with the tension in a preloaded bolt. I think what you're doing is far more interesting and wish we had a chance to do this instead!
