I had such a wonderful time browsing (and buying!) the incredible plants at Botanica Studio in Bath. Their selection of houseplants really was incredible.

I think the pronunciation of stapelia is: stuh-PEEL-ya. Years and years ago, my grandma was given a trailing stapelia. She didn't know anything about it and was just growing it as a funky foliage plant. Then it started forming a huge bud, which developed into a massive starfish-shaped flower. My gram was so thrilled with that big, beautiful flower, and thought it was totally hysterical that it was so stinky. Every time I see a stapelia, I remember my gram's delight with hers.

Amazing you went to Botanica! I work in Bath and it's literally my favourite place to go on my lunch break on a busy day. It's so chill, smells amazing, looks amazing and the staff are so lovely ❤️

Alocasia Scalprum is my absolute FABORITE Alocasia and I just finally found one last month at a beautiful family owned shop and snagged it! One thing I’ve noticed is that it absolutely has gone bonkers with growth in Leca. I have most of my other Alocasias in Pon with great success but for some reason this particular species seems to LOVE leca even more. I’ve only had it a few weeks and it already has the most insane root growth and it literally finished pushing a new leaf and starts a new one before it’s even done expanding! Consider Leca for that plant baby 100% 😘

Hi Claire! I don't know how useful one person's experience is, but I love my aglaonema pictum tricolor! It's sitting in an east facing window in the northern hemisphere (the window is open, so it's getting ambient humidity). I water it when it dries and it has given me no grief. Good luck, I can't wait to see how yours grows!

I used to go there daily in 2020/21 while i was still at uni in Bath! Gorgeous shop and really fun to have a look around.

Tks for the lovely tour. I have had my stapelia for about 2 years. Slow growing then all of a sudden taking off. Such an easy plant. I only water when I feel it and not so firm or slightly going limp.

What a great plant shop! 😍
I also have a Alocasia scalprum. I cleaned the roots off immediately and put her into some water so she could grow water roots for a couple of weeks. And now I just transfered her into pon. So keeping my fingers crossed 😅

Beautiful shop! I could do some damage there! 😂 Thank you for taking us along on your getaway! I recently gave away my Aglaonema Siam Aurora to a coworker, I saw a tricolor I wanted so I gave it away and I went and purchased it. I do miss my Siam because I had her for almost two years and she was a big girl. But my coworker was over the moon to get her, so I’m happy. You got some beautiful new plants!

Joli ❤️she’s such a good girl! I hope she’s doing well with the remodeling people!!

Looks like a wonderful vacation and a great plant shop!

What a gorgeous Scalprum! I transitioned mine to Pon by way of water. Even at 60 - 70% humidity, the leaves started to curl so I put her in my prop/humidity box for a couple of months. She's been back in her spot near the humidifier with the lower (but not Tucson standard) humidity for a month and gave me a leaf to die for, with another on the way. None of my other leathery reptilian super dragony Alocasia has struggled in the least on the same shelves so I thought I'd better give you a heads up! I'm thinking it'll love your cabinet and, perhaps, The LECA Queen's slow method of transitioning to semi-hydro. I don't use LECA - I've got faux Pon - but the principle is the same. I've lost a couple plants (probably because I scrubbed the roots to much!), but have also been able to transition well-established plants without losing a leaf! He's to the planty journey! 💚

I have the succulent with pink bells in a large trough but have never noticed an unpleasant odour with it. It is a fast grower in oz & has loads of flowers. Love your videos & Yoley,

Keep in mind that the scalprum growing every where, the leaves can grow right, left, up, down upside-down ..Its a gorgeous plant the pattern is crazy, but for me it was too much of a mess that the leaves were too chaotic🧡 especially when you have more than 3 leaves.

Claire, the scalprum alocasia definitely is sensitive to Pon transition but once successful it loves it. Dont be surprised if you experience leaf drop.
