Ceiba Records

Profile: In the summer of 1996, Ceiba Records was founded in San Francisco. This pantheon of Psy-trance, Psy-break and Ambient - Downtempo sights and sounds was an answer to California's expanding festival scene and the international party circuit.

Before Ceiba Records, there were only a few people in the US even aware of Psy-trance, a core group of travelers, loosely organized around the CCC collective, infected by the goa vibe, started to organize underground trance parties in San Francisco.

Peter Ziegelmeier a.k.a. Kode IV, had been a producer of electronic music in the U.S. for several years, evolving from the Industrial techno towards more psychedelic sound in the early 90's.

Peter, Goa Gil and Ariane MacAvoy were pioneers of trance music in America, when they started to produce together in 1992. At that time, Peter was signed as "Kode IV" with a Belgian label, but wanted to regain his artistic freedom, thus in 1996 Peter, then with Adam Ohana and Jonas Judd created the independent label "Ceiba Records" to open a platform for psychedelic trance in the U.S.

The concept of our label was to purvey a consummate polysensory experience through music, art and fashion, sourced from local and international artists, and inspired by a visionary global movement, emerging from Burning Man, Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle, Goa, and many more microcosms of culture.
