Waiting On a Miracle - Encanto [Male Version] by Scott Shattuck

This may not have been the runaway fav from Encanto (hello, "Bruno"...), but as soon as I heard it I just knew I had to sing it. The emotions are written so raw and real, it's definitely something we've all felt in our lives before. I hope I've done it justice!

We've still got PLENTY in the works with Scott & Ryceejo together, so make sure you're subbed so you don't miss out!!

LYRICS
Don't be upset or mad at all
Don't feel regret or sad at all
Hey, I'm still a part of the family, Madrigal
And I'm fine, I am totally fine
I will stand on the side as you shine
I'm not fine, I'm not fine
I can't move the mountains
I can't make the flowers bloom
I can't take another night up in my room
Waiting on a miracle
I can't heal what's broken
Can't control the morning rain or a hurricane
Can't keep down the unspoken invisible pain
Always waiting on a miracle, a miracle
Always walking alone
Always wanting for more
Like I'm still at that door longing to shine
Like all of you shine
All I need is a change
All I need is a chance
All I know is I can't stay on the side
Open your eyes, open your eyes, open your eyes
I would move the mountains
Make new trees and flowers grow
Someone please just let me know, where do I go?
I am waiting on a miracle, a miracle
I would heal what's broken
Show this family something new
Who I am inside, so what can I do?
I'm sick of waiting on a miracle, so here I go
I am ready
Come on, I'm ready
I've been patient, and steadfast, and steady
Bless me now as you blessed us all those years ago
When you gave us a miracle
Am I too late for a miracle?

Stream/download this cover on all platforms! And have you heard our new Encanto medley?

I love how you're willing to move the notes around, or hold them longer/shorter than the original. Most male covers just change the octave, but you really make it your own without compromising the original.

I imagine the entire video but with Camilo and Mirabel with the opposite roles and it was MAGIC ahahah

I loved the way Scott sang "Madrigal"

I love how you took a sort of possibly vulnerable character as Camilo, and make him connect with this song. It's beautiful???

1:45 and on is so powerful. I love how you really did your own take on the song.

Weird compliment, you ready? I'm Deaf, and im sitting here jamming out to this. Your voice has a beautiful clarity to it, it's like glass. I can feel it, and hear it (sorta). I honestly prefer this to the singer from the film.

So many people hear Camilo in this cover, but I immediately heard Bruno! It doesn't fit perfectly, because I imagine the song being broken up into different parts to fit his journey. But here we go...

I hear him as a younger man at first. He loves his family, he's proud of his little nieces, but envies their easier gifts. He loves his sisters, but it's getting harder to suppress decades of pain his misunderstood visions cause. The "miracle" he hopes for is a prophecy that brings joy.

He's "always walking alone", he hasn't found a partner to start his own family or a way to branch out on his own to act. I imagine with his reputation either one was always out of reach. And he "can't take another night up" in his (creepy) room hoping for a vision that'll be seen as a "miracle".

He wants to shine like his sisters, and go back to that time of wonder when the magic doors first appeared.

And this part, he's pleading with his Father (Casita/the candle) for a change and a chance to show his visions CAN be good. Some joy can come from them. And this is where I picture Mirabel not getting a door, and Abuela asking Bruno for the vision (open your eyes, open your eyes--- his glowing green eyes!!!)

This is where it would get bittersweet. He's thinking "Yes, I can do this. I CAN see good visions, I can help people move mountains and see beauty. I can heal our family through poor Mirabel." And he's making the loooong walk up his tower, but it doesn't feel so long this time.

And at this part (with Scott's amazing voice), we see Bruno setting up for Mirabel's vision. "I've been patient, and steadfast, and steady
Bless me now as you blessed us all those years ago". He is so hopeful that his Father will bless him (and the family) with a good vision, a miracle.

I kind of imagine the music stopping, and there's silence as Bruno sees Maribel in front of the cracked Casita. It breaks Bruno, and he wonders "am I too late for a miracle?" He breaks the prophecy stone and decides to run. But I still think he would be running for Mirabel, not himself. Poor Bruno cares so much for his family!!!

And sadly, he WILL have to "stand on the side" as the lyrics go, until Mirabel fulfills the vision--- which, by the way, DID ultimately lead to empowering, changing, and healing the family! (And hopefully changing the way people interpret his visions).

Thanks for reading, wish I could animate it instead!!

Your voice is so good that a person in a vid put your voice as Camilo. You have a brilliant voice

So, how does Encanto compare with the other Disney classics? Or with newer Disney animated musicals like Moana or Frozen? Let's hear your hot take!

Just want to say I loved your power notes on this song. It gave me chills. This is one of my favorite songs from the show and you crushed it. As for your question musically Encanto is so different from classic disney but also classic disney doesn't fit the style of the movie. I think it is a beautiful show and very well done with keeping disney magic but having its own flare.

Wow!!! What an amazing job. I can totally picture Camilo singing this, perhaps a couple of years older than in the movie (to account for the maturity in your voice). You really nailed it, Scott, plus the added grit and note changes are particularly impressive. Thanks for sharing your talent!

This damn thing has me almost spilling tears... Somebody mentioned that, what if this was Bruno? “I can’t take another night up in my room.” I think of him behind the walls all those years, just wanting to be loved...
