When I first moved into this house, I found these odd covers in my basement, which turned out to be sump pumps designed to pump water out of the basement during periods of rain/high water tables.

But do they even work? Here's how to find out -- and what to do if they don't. _

Check valve on output side should be changed every 5 years max. $7. The valves fail and plug the outflow. Pump runs continuously, then fails or thermal faults. Basement floods. Not a plumber. Just a battle scarred homeowner

Please would help me to understand, It’s ok that it’s making a lot of noise. It’s not water in . It’s connected to the electric wall. Do I call a plumber. It’s been hours. Thank you, great video.

Thanks, never seen one of these before. My basement is finished and is only partway below grade.

Hi. i have a home with a sump pump and a radon mitigation system which runs through the sump pump. The house is 11 years old and i have lived here for 6 years. The sump pump has never been serviced that i know of. I am getting ready to set up and install a portable dehumidifier in my basement and want to run the drain line into the sump as i have no other floor drain . I have had other homes with open pit sump pumps, but never one like this where the sump lid is all sealed up. I dont know if i even have a check valve or where to find it! Im not sure whether i need to call a plumber or a radon mit service, or BOTH...heaven forbid. I wonder if i can run the dehumidifier drain line into the sump by just drilling a hole in the top and if so do i need to seal it with silicone or something like it. Any help appreciated.
