Mikoyan MiG-31 is a supersonic interceptor aircraft developed for use by the Soviet Air Forces. The MiG-31 has the distinction of being one of the fastest combat jets in the world.

More than 30 years have passed and this aircraft can still intercept most modern fighters, bombers and cruise missiles and low orbit satellites at more than 3 times the speed of sound!! Can reach nearly the edge of space!! This should be regarded as the best fighter ever designed by Mig and brings back memories of an era when Mig used to be the top dog of Russian fighter jet aviation. The world's greatest interceptor still continues to be as a threat in the sky today as it was in the time of its induction!!

She should have had many counterparts from that era. The CF-105, the F-108, the F-12A. Arrow. Rapier. Cygnus.
She should also had many rivals and partners from that era. Valkyries. T-4. Blackbird.
Most of them however, never left the drawing board, due to "the times no longer need them", or "no longer cost-effective".
She and her sister, the once fearsome Foxbat, are the only in the dark blue of stratosphere, lonely but pride.
4 or even 5 decades have passed, these fearsome monster are still silently guarding the sky they are destined to protect, as well as the last glory of the cold era that symbolizes the progress of mankind.

There is no longer Mig31 in Russia. All aircraft are modified to MiG-31 BM. It means a new engine, a new radar, a new target indicator. For the convenience of the pilot, an ILS is installed in the 1st cockpit instead of a PPI, as well as a multifunctional LCD display on which tactical information is displayed.
In addition, thanks to the use of the latest materials in the design, it was possible to remove some of the operational restrictions, in particular, on the dynamic heating of the cockpit canopy. Now the interceptor can fly for a long time at speeds close to M = 2.83, and therefore is the fastest aircraft in the world!

It's simply amazing that this rather bulky plane is capable of these speeds. This monster doesn't look like speed at all with it's edges but hell is this thing fast.
