I can't believe we're at that time of the year where this book tag can be made, time flies

The fact that it’s the Mid Year Book Tag gives me pause.

P.S. Jesse’s shirt is iconic.

House of Hollow was one of those books where I wasn't too sure what I thought at first.... but halfway through I went ALL in and read it all in one sitting. It was a cool interesting book.

2023 is going to be one of those years which I am going to remember for a long time because it was the year in which I finally got out of my reading slump which lasted more than 2... YEARS. Finding out that I can still read and enjoy fiction was like emotional healing for me and I am beyond grateful that it happened. For now my favourite book of the year is The Poppy War, I just finished the first book in the series and I loved it! I am also planning on reading some more fantasy and I am very excited about it!

"House of Hollow" sounds like it has "Yellowjackets" vibes 😍

Goo Gone is a literal lifesaver, it takes all of the sticker residue away! I cannot deal with the target stickers. Enjoyed the chain of thorns rant, it doesn’t deserve the four star rating 💅

House of Hollow has moved to the top of my TBR after that review!

Currently, I'm in an "it's complicated" on again off again relationship with this reading year 😅

I just tried to come up with answers for this reading tag and realized I got nothing. Most of my reads this year have been rereads of childhood favourites in an attempt to get out of the seemingly perpetual reading slump I'm in. I have recently discovered light novels though, and am quite enjoying those at the moment!

pushing boundaries vibes... more horror! glad you dipped in. wanting to read experimentally is exactly how I fell into horror and I now love it! good luck!

I'm 9 books away from hitting my Goodreads goal.

Granted, this is partly due to a bunch of short stories with their own listings, though mostly it boils down to rereading a series I find reads very fast and has a lot of books.

My various sub-goals aren't doing so well, partly because I only sorta got around to setting them.

My answers
1: In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado
2: Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare
3: The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston (recommended by you)
4: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
5: Things we hide from the light by Lucy Score (average, I was more into the girls' banter and scenes than the actual couple)
6: Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo (first half of the year) and A touch of Chaos by Scarlett St Clair (second half)
7: The Betrayals by Bridget Collins (I've no idea what the book is about, I saw the beautiful shimmery golden cover and bought it. It looks wonderful on my shelf)
8: I actually read from several genres this year. I read several of Hercule Poirot, heckload of romance and smut, several thrillers, mangas for the first time, many fantasy series. It's been an eventful year so far.
9: I read manga for the first time and I loved it. Also, I used to be a stickler of my tbr list. Like reading completely in the order I added them. That changed. I became a mood reader. This led me to experiment with several genres I had never tried before. This made sure I never went into a slump because I was reading exactly what I wanted at the time. It was bingeing romance, mystery, whatever genre, one at a time.
10: I had a goal of reading books with titles from A to Z. I successfully read those 26 books. I also want to finish reading the Hercule Poirot series by Agatha Christie this year. That is halfway through.
11: I've been gravitating towards shorter books. I still read longer format ones but they make me pause for a second now.
12: I think it has to be Dead Romantics, because it has romance, paranormal, mystery, everything I wanna read this year.

I found when reading on my kindle I don’t look ahead as much, like having one page to focus on prevents me from scanning the next when something crazy happens so I just read faster to get to that part. I also like challenging the “# min to end of chapter” so when it says “5 min to end of chapter” I’ll try to beat it.

I read almost exclusively horror, and We Need to Do Something was so refreshing. I loved it ❤

I feel the same way with e-readers!! My theory is that with physical books you can see how much of the book you have left whereas you can't do that with the ebooks.

Tip for book stickers - blow a hairdryer like 6 inches away from the cover on low (not cold) for 10 seconds to warm up the adhesive underneath. It makes it easter to peel off. As for sticker residue, go to an art supply store and get a rubber cement eraser. It should only be a few bucks at the most and you can use it for books, art, and other things too :)

God bless you for puttong the questions in the description 😭 my reading has been GREAT! A little slower than usual, but you know what? We're being kind to our brain this year. Currently, I'm still reeling from reading Painted Devils. It is perfect. No notes. I felt so seen by that book.

Rubbing alcohol and a q-tip is a miracle worker for book sticker residue! A small amount of patience and your books will be 👌🏼👌🏼

My year started off so strong, but then April hit and my life got crazy. I hope to get back to a regular reading schedule soon!
