The recipe might be inspired by some Tuscan sweets. In Germany there are 'Florentiner' (probably influenced by sweets of Florence), florentine biscuits ... We use a lot of candied orange and lemon peels as well as nuts, mostly during Christmas.
I'll try veganizing this recipe again. It's fun. I want to try and use mung dal as a replacement for the eggs. I will also reduce the sugar and butter. Wish me luck 😛

Love your recipes and videos. I have tried out many especially the semla buns my favorite. Another fav is this one toscakaka.
A couple of questions - the marzipan is it sweetened? Coz I didn’t see you add any sugar in the cake batter. Second, isn’t this similar to the danish drommekage?
