Checking Out the New iPhone Crash Detection Feature

Many are questioning if iPhone's new crash detention feature is too sensitive. Doug Sonders was riding his motorcycle when his iPhone flew off the handlebars. He says the phone sent his emergency contacts an automated text message and called 911. To test the new technology, The Wall Street Journal conducted what they describe as a "not-exactly-scientific" test. Journal reporter Joanna Stern says the feature worked as advertised in the moving vehicle but not in the stationary one.

Ever since I first heard of this new feature, I couldn't help but question if this feature is actually a "safety feature" when it comes to the phone simply falling onto a floor or carpeting.

It’s a clever feature which could save many lives but it should be in testing more and tweaked more because if it goes off on a roller coaster, that is a manufacturer error and not a user error.

I think the feature could probably use some tweaking, but I'm glad that this is a feature, and it is better for it to be overly sensitive than not sensitive enough. This could save lives.

I really like this feature. I think it can be a lifesaver when needed.

Or don't keep your phone on you when you go on rides. That way it doesn't fall out and hit someone in the face, severely injuring them

This new feature is the new advanced “help I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”

“Your entire family thinks your dead”😂😂. Imagine the irony when they found out😭

It only triggers at high speeds, mainly while driving. So dropping it accidentally won’t trigger it.

Wait so if the triggers accidentally and it calls 911 what's going to happen will you be charged for misusing it even though it's not really your fault

This feature, regardless of the accidental triggers, is one I can deal with, It even works if you crash into a body of water and sends almost precise location. This will save a lot of lives.

Imagine someone throwing their iPhone on the bed and starts bouncing around and hits the floor. 🤣

I pushed both my parents to get this new phone because of that feature. In my area car accidents happen way too often. My mom was T boned by a truck at 60mph. She miraculously survived and is doing okay. But def not 100% the same. We all found out because I watch the scanners. But that will not always be the case. I hope they work the bugs out because this is a great idea and can mean a world of difference by having it.

It actually doing it’s job. The first dude dropped his phone while on high speed…and the roller coaster it can seem like a crash.

OMGOSH! Wtf? I don’t think I’d want to put my family through that. There’s not enough safeguards against when your phone is just dropped.

I was in a car accident a few weeks ago and my phone called the police right away so from firsthand experience it works(I was fine and no one was injured).

From those of us that relate to the guide in KBase for everything: DO NOT DISABLE IT ALL TOGETHER.

Airplane mode is fine as a temporary solution.

One minute you drop your phone by mistake and the next thing you know your entire family thinks your dead.
