Thanks for the helpful video! I went to the apple store last night and asked about this specific customization feature and the employee that was helping me said that you can't upgrade the RAM yourself. She explained that the small hatch in the back was only for technicians to enter the inside of the iMac to make repairs! I thought she was BS-ing me and i'm glad I found this video. I'll be buying the RAM you provided in the link. Thanks again!

I use this ram, Not that I'll ever need 32 GB ram.Still nice to have.Everything is so smooth now.& with bootcamp my 2nd imac doubles as a hardcore gaming PC.Specs 3.4GHz Quad core i7, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 768GB Flash Storage, GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5. I also own a second machine for my room with the same specs, But with just 16GB ram, & a 1TB Fusion drive, And it too games just fine! If your thinking of upgrading your ram, Do it this way rather than through mac! Cost effective & easy!

Apple care does still cover your mac if you put upgrades in it. You just have to change them back to the original ram if you were to take it in just incase they were the issue.

the 21.5" 2012 iMac doesnt have user-upgradable RAM, you would have to get it through apple or take apart the computer to find it. User-Upgradable ram is availible on all 2007 (if not earlier) to 2012 imacs except for the 2012 21.5".

I just got my 27" Ivy Bridge the other day and I'll tell you first-hand that with all the bells and whistles, Battlefield 3 looks pretty awesome, especially on this big monitor. I will also have to say, however, that the NVIDIA graphics card on this model isn't the absolute best out there, and the price for this thing is outrageous. You could easily create a more powerful DYI gaming rig for below a third of the price of an iMac. I don't use it for games that much anyways.

I have to say that the ram tray is pretty slick. No screws no fuss, just how i like it.

It will run the same, you will just be able to do more things while playing games, like recording or playing music

There is a number of reasons, what brought me here is the fact that I do 3D modelling and animation and more RAM means faster rendering times and that is ALL you want, trust me :D

It might, the new iMacs use 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, and your macbook should only take 1333MHz. While you *can* use higher frequencies, its recommended you use RAM thats made for your system

The new late 2012 27" iMac (and ALL iMacs) use a laptop CPU and GPU. You will need laptop RAM in this machine also.

Installing mine as I write this. This thing's about to be beastly!

If I remember correctly, it only works on the 27" model. The 21.5" doesn't include the ram access door.

No, it isn't a video card, it's only the GPU chip. The processor can be removed/upgraded though.
