I was so excited to put up curtains in my new home because it was the first time ever that I didn’t have radiators or heating elements along the baseboards or windows! I did a 1/2 inch from the floor and 8 inches out. It makes my room look HUGE. Definitely good tips!

Don’t forget to place the curtain rod a little higher above the window frame (not right on it)

Another key reason to expand the width of the rod is for when you want to block out the light completely. If you only make the rod go the width of the window light often peaks out when curtains are drawn. Crucial if you suffer migraines & need 100% blackout.

This is good advice if you are going for a grand look. Personally I like the cozy, homey look of smaller curtains that are more fitted to the actual window size.
