RV Rental Information, Tips To Help You!

It seems like this year I am seeing more Rental RVs than I ever have before. Some times we get asked the very basic questions that help people get started so I thought I would do a quick video of a few things to keep in mind the first time you head out renting an RV. This is a good beginner video for RVers a form of RVing 101 introduction.

1. Do not overload your RV. Weight translates to lower power, higher fuel use/cost, and longer stopping distance.

2. At the beginning of the trip, to reduce travel weight, empty the black/grey water tank and put only enough water in the fresh water tank for short term use; you can fill the freshwater tank when you get at or near your destination.

3. Invest in an inline water filter to attach to the fill hose, and always flush the hose before hooking it up to the RV (to wash out dust and little critters that might be hiding away.)

4. The journey can be as good as the destination. If you aren't enjoying the trip and taking things easy, you might as well have just stayed home.

Great tips! Also, spend an hour or two with the RV owner and get familiar with all the mechanical features of the rv. i.e slide operation, tire pressure / inflation, engine fluids, RV levelling, tank sensors, furnace, A/C, using propane (i.e fridge, stove) and water source configuration.

Thank you very much. This video is really helpful. My wife is half American half German, I am German. We are currently planning to travel across the USA by RV and visit every single state, starting Oktober 2021. We run our own consultancy company and therefore we also want to try out if we can work remotely and online from the RV. Kind of ‚work and travel‘. :) So this will be an amazing adventure and an opportunity to learn about how diverse the US actually are and go beyond typical stereotypes. We plan to stay at the US on a quarterly basis, go back to Germany, stay there for another quarter of a year, go back to the US and so on... Therefore the whole journey will take years to complete.❤️🇺🇸

If you are looking to buy an RV but want to rent first, some dealers will let you rent the RV you want and then put the rental cost towards the cost of the RV when you purchase.

Get the rental agreement ahead of time. I was in the RV office to pay my storage lot bill. The guy in front of me was renting a motorhome. The agent explained the agreement and the customer was confused about what it said. I didn't see the agreement but agreed (privately) that the explanation was very confusing. The way the agent went through the agreement was similar to sitting in the finance office when buying a new car.

Watch your ground clearance. Many RV trailers have the plumbing for draining the tanks in the rear. Going over obstacles or through dips is sometimes a good way to damage those drains. Many times it’s good to approach dips or curbs at an angle.

I rented from Cruise America. 4 people, 30’, was fine. The RV was a little worn out but it worked. Avg: $300/day in total.

Driving: Back up danger. Use a spotter and/or rear camera.

This was so useful - answering exactly the questions I was wondering about before picking up our rental RV in a few days going to Yellowstone.

Very helpful, practical advice, that puts you in the right mindset for what you need to be prepared for (esp. the basic walkthrough of the hookups!) Great video!

Know your limitations. If you are scared to pull any type of trailer, be it a small utility trailer or other type, pulling an rv trailer may not be right for you. Doesn't mean you will never do it, if you know someone that routinely pulls any type of trailer ask them for some instruction in a big parking lot.
If you pee yourself when you rent a large rental truck, you may want to reconsider your immediate plans to rent an rv.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from rving or renting an rv, but know yoir limitations and get educated about your rv operational weaknesses.
Once you get past your fears is when the real journey and adventure begins.
Hope to see y'all out here.

Great presentation, as usual. I also enjoyed you opening videography! You have a great eye for filming and it’s a treat when you incorporate that into your presentation. Thanks!

My wife and I are travel Dr. For years we have been using a 2003 Rialta and it has been great. Recently my in-laws let us use their 2018 40+ foot diesel pusher while we are traveling. At first glance it's really cool with everything you could ever need but it's a monster to drive, the fuel economy is non existent, 4 to 6 maybe 8mpg. Everything has to be planned out in advance including parking, turning and general use it's all hard. It's great to rent or borrow to see what will work best for your situation.

Buy a toy. When I was getting my CDL the instructor had a toy semi with a trailer on his table. If you move it on the table like it's real the trailer will follow like it's real. It's the cheapest and simplest way to get a 3d model going and really helps you understand what the trailer does in relation to the tow vehicle being able to see it from outside the vehicle.
