i cannot get my game to open without takeing me to the GTA.exe when i open my server from then browser "open in client" now it takes me to the story mode ver frusterating this messed my game up bad

When I set sa-mp to win98 compatibility, it doesn't give me the server browser and just launches a server automatically and says "Connecting to :7777" "The server didn't respond. Retrying.". If I set it to any other compatibility, it will launch the server browser like normal, but when I connect to a server, it just crashes. Any help?
