Great point- we're going to surrender ourselves to SOMETHING. It can be something worthless(or even worse, harmful) or something worthwhile. Surrendering ourselves to God is the the best, thus ONLY worthwhile pursuit for our lives. Everything that comes from that should be beneficial.

This is, of course, an excellent conversation. I am a Christian. Christians are really good sometimes at judging things that they know absolutely nothing about. One of these is 'anxiety'. If you dare mention that you have anxiety you can see in the eyes of every Christian the judgmental "be anxious for nothing". That applies to some people but not to all. I have lived for eight decades with stress related anxiety, actually probably from the time that I was born. It has absolutely nothing to do with the biblical anxiety. We know today that nicotine helps those with my issues, as well as those with Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Schizophrenia, stress induced anxiety and depression. As a matter of fact, if my mother had smoked like her other five siblings did she most likely would not have had dementia. While the poisons in cigarettes come from the additives and not the nicotine, there is a very good reason why some people have the need to smoke, so I'm not so sure that this should become a Christian principle across the board. To Mr. Peterson's war on drugs because of his personal experience I say much the same. There are those for whom only benzos with allow them to live a normal and functional life, and all of this business about exercise, journaling, diet, etc are nothing but BS. So to both men I say be very careful about labeling, as your knowledge is limited.

You are angry at your father because abusing you lowered your chances of survival.
Now you have trauma and you are screwed.
Also knowing this may help you to be just and to help your offspring to survive.

Giving your self up to the highest is fine and all but whats the highest utility. Does klavan in his thankfulness limit mankind to the system at hand. Why cant we aim for something that alleviates suffering instead? Not as band aid on axiom of faith but as a solution.
