Trailer for the 2022 Oberammergau Passion Play

The 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play took place from May 14 until October 2, 2022. More than 412,000 visitors from all over the world came to attend the 110 performances. The play goes back to a vow made in 1633, after the plague killed more than 80 inhabitants. In 1634 the vow was fulfilled for the first time and has been every 10 years ever since. More than 1,700 inhabitants participated in the Play 2022. Play director Christian Stückl, musical director Markus Zwink and stage and costume designer Stefan Hageneier worked together for the third, respectively fourth time to stage the more than five hours long play.

The next Passion Play takes place in 2030.
