What do the brethren moons actually do in Dead Space?

With the Remake out, there are a lot people coming to the game for the first time. So let me hit you with some knowledge: We have no clue where the markers actually initially originated. But what we do know, is the reason its called Dead Space is because humanity is the only species currently space fairing, but we find instances of other ancient civilizations that got bodied but there doesn't seem to be any information on where they went. When the black marker touched down on Earth virtually wiping out all the dinosaurs, our species would arise, to be its undoing. In todays episode, lets discuss some Dead Space!

I really, REALLY need them to expand upon the lore of the moons. Maybe it’s cliche but ever since those creatures were revealed in Dead Space 3 they’ve been stuck in the back of my head like an itch.

The Brethren Moons are basically the Reapers from Mass Effect except not stupid.

The Reaper Cycle is built on logic that straight up doesn't make sense and can even be called out as such in the games.

Convergence on the other hand, you can't really argue against it from the Moons own perspective, sure it's really bad for the victims, but that's of no issue to the Moons at all, why should they care about the opinions of what are basically specs of dust to them?

I’m just wondering what happens AFTER a number of brethren moon have been formed? Perhaps they mesh together and form an eldritch mass of flesh to mesh with the stars? Sorta like the tyranid’s from warhammer 40k.

In fact a friend of mine and I took the Mass effect series as an inspiration to come up with our own wild theory of how the Markers came into being. But your theory of the Brethren Moons being under an external control sounds better. In fact, the Markers being conduits of Extra-Dimentional energy is definitely an amazing concept
