Kavakos' Legendary Flying Staccato

Leonidas Kavakos doing what he does best: showing violinists around the world how the up-bow staccato should be performed in Wieniawski's great Violin Concerto.
Honestly: I've never seen this performed better. Not just the passage, but the whole concerto!

The violinist in the background getting the desire to burn the violin as soon as kavakos starts the staccato is hilarious 😂

As an Auer/Wieniawski bowhold enjoyer I have to say that this is easier than it looks. He could probably go double the speed of that without losing any sound.

The hold (and Kavakos) are just that good

This is signature Wieniawski's staccato.

That's not a flying staccato. It's just staccato. His bow didn't leave the string as you would in a flying staccato which is usually done down bow because it turns into a jété. The best up bow passage is in the Mendelssohn Concerto.

The staccato is beautiful indeed, but it doesn't make the pitch!

That staccato is written down bow on purpose. Only those who can’t do it down bow play it on the up bow ‘cheating’.

Barf. Definitely not legendary. Heard much better from plenty of other violinists.
