simple, user manual book. it is bundled with every copy of Windows sold in the past (assuming you bought it legally).

You dont need to type at every start the win-command. In the older days it was pretty normal to edit the "autoexec"-batch data and set the command to the "win"-path to boot directly into windows 3.1 / 3.11. but if your windows-installation is corrupted - better have a start-disk from dos ready 😆

Yeah, it was more difficult back in those days for people to use computers unless they were at least a little comfortable using MS-DOS. Computers were pretty common in the Windows 3.1 era but they weren't quite as mainstream as they would become a few years later. Windows 95 really changed things to make it a lot more accessible for new users.

Yeah you lived in dos on that thing I had one as our first family computer installing xwing off 4 floppies brings back memories. You get used to the command line really quickly when it’s the main part of the os

If you actually bought an OEM PC back in the day with Windows 3.1 they usually set it up so it auto starts Windows after DOS loads up without having to type anything

I used to have a windows 3.1 computer I used to mess around with as a kid like 20 years ago. I definitely don’t recall having to boot trough DOS like that, it just booted to windows. I wonder why it’s different in your case.
