✅ NEW Gateway Better or Worse? - Verizon 5G Home Internet - ARC-XCI55AX - Activation Issue

Verizon 5G Home Internet activation issues? Is the new ARC cube gateway better or worse than the old ASK cube gateway? One is MUCH faster! Verizon stealthily released a new 5G Home Internet Gateway with additional features and very importantly now has internal hookup for an external antenna connection! I had some activation issues with no connection, yellow LED etc but got them solved. Lets compare the two gateways, the ARC-XCI55AX vs ASK-NCQ1338.

UPDATE: sorta a rookie mistake but for some reason my phone/ARC gateway was locking me onto 802.11n 2.4Ghz wifi even when standing next to the gateway. That was causing the slow speeds! Once I split the wifi and connected to 5GHz or used ethernet I was very similar to the ASK gateway. Problem solved!

Be sure to see my other Verizon and T-Mobile Home Internet Videos:

I’ve had my cube for 3 weeks and it has worked beautifully! I haven’t had any buffering issues on my FireTV, my phones or computers. We absolutely love it, we live about a half mile away from the brand new Verizon tower they just put up, so I imagine that must be a factor in why it works so well. I plugged it in and had all my devices running in 15-20 minutes! It’s over $80 cheaper than Cox Cable!

I'm in the middle of a weird issue. Got the modem a bout 6 weeks ago, Seamless set-up, and very nice speeds (280-320 down, 20-24 up, wired..WiFi slightly slower, -20/30 down). Very consistent, numerous/daily testing, NEVER below 250. 30 day trial ended, got the bill and signed up/paid. Within 24 hours, down dropped to 70-80 down. First thought they were throttling, but...WiFi was still 250ish! Only Ethernet cable connection died (2 different desktops both sucked). Been 2 weeks since and never been above 80 down. MANY hours with V reps (phone, text, web chat) and they are finally sending new box. I have the ARC, and the replacement shipping says on my order page is the ASK version. Every tech has been baffled, can't quite believe it's a hardware fail. Time will tell (arriving 8/10).
Thanks for your great and helpful content!

I have had Verizon with the ARC for a little over a week and I am getting good numbers (200/25) at my farm. My only other option out here is Starlink, so I am pretty happy. The service has been solid. I do use a Google mesh and not their built in WiFi.

I got lucky, we just signed up for their service and I got an ASK. I was getting 10-20 megs down and like 2 up with CenturyLink for 80 dollars per month. I'm so happy internet competition finally exists.

Ok, I just got the cube.. and it's the newer one like yours.. white light.. blinking and then steady.. I contacted Verizon tech from the card included and setup my connection.. It's working and doing a great job.. I might cancel my current old internet as that is charging me now almost $130/mo. :-( I'm also applying for the extra credit.. so, hope I get that..

What is your Firmware Version? Mine is at 3.2.0.6 . However, I thought I seen somewhere the newest is 3.2.0.7 .

What happens when the white light blinked twice, and never came on again?

When I got the Arcadyan version of the gateway I also tried to activate it somewhere other than the service address. I noticed it would only let me activate it if I was in a location with "Ultra Wideband" availability. Trying to activate it where I got only LTE or Nationwide 5G it would not activate.

Thanks Nate. This will be helpful since I'm getting my unit in a day or two. Appreciate the information.

I didn't have any setup issues, went very smooth. I did wait about 10 minutes or so for the the light to turn solid white before going thru the process. The download and upload speeds I 'm getting matched my phone's download and upload speeds so I don't see the slow speeds you're getting. I've had this cube for about a month now and I haven't noticed any issues. I do reboot it every night with a digital timer, like I did with the T-Mobile silver can (after removing the battery). I have a Synology router and NAS so a changing gateway IP address doesn't affect accessing them remotely, since they use Quickconnect. I have noticed that on rare occasions that I believe the latency is very high and a streaming video will jump a little, or I have to wait a second or two for a command response on my streaming control device. It's very rare and the broadband service I had before T-Mobile and Verizon had way more dropouts and buffering issues then either of the wireless services. T-Mobile had an issue with my NAS connection to the Amazon Glacier (AWS) service. I back up my NAS periodically to this service and on several occasions the T-Mobile internet would just stop during this process and I would have to reboot the T-Mobile gateway to get internet back. That's the reason I gave up on T-Mobile. I haven't had that issue at all the Verizon gateway.

Great content! Can't wait to see the results of an external antenna with this and figuring out why it's not performing as well as the Askey gateway. One thing both companies do not allow that I wish they would are band locking features, i understand why they probably don't want people to have that ability to avoid overloading a particular band in a given area but I still wish this was an option on these gateways.

Nate, if I read the annotation correctly you activated your device at your home which is not the "service" address correct? I am going to be receiving my gateway this afternoon, and my service address is not my house address. I have seen conflicting information, with some saying you need to set up at your "service" address before moving it. What has your experience been? I will be recieving the ARC cube and my plan is listed by Verizon as "4G LTE Home internet, " there is no 5G in my area. Thanks!

FYI - I tried the address workaround with Verizon 5G Home Internet (used a family member's address that can get it then entered my address for shipping) and it initially processed. Then 2 days later I got an email from Verizon saying they reviewed my purchase and cancelled it because my shipping address is not eligible for 5G Home Internet. I get 5G UW on my phone in my house, so not sure why my address isn't eligible for their 5G Home Internet. Anyway, thought you should know the address workaround is no longer working. Also - love the channel! Thanks for all you do!

Nater thank you for all the great videos. Would you happen to know where or how to view what cellular bands an ask-ncq1338 is actively using?

I have that exact same model and am pulling 377 down, 22 up with a latency of 115. I never had any activation issues and you need to have the app installed on your phone before Activia. Have you considered the fact you could have a faulty device.
