Meanwhile, NASA has given the media a sneak peek into a new Mars simulation habitat.
Called "Mars Dune Alpha" the habitat will be home to three missions, each a year long, meant to test humans' physical and mental health while in prolonged isolation.
Located in Houston, Texas the 3D-printed facility is comprised of four rooms, a medical station, a gym, two bathrooms, and a lounge.
It also has an ‘outdoor’ section, that is meant to simulate expedition missions on the Red Planet, using a special treadmill.
The first experiment is slated to start in June this year with four volunteers.
NASA is in the process of selecting the final candidates.
