The tension was very obvious during the first song. Then she flew like a bird! 🌹

I know her right hand is tired from carrying that whole performance .

You're totally right. Ever since 2001 Mariah struggles with self confidence. It got really bad after she was forced to apologize for a little fail she made on Michael Jackson's funeral AND the 2016 new years eve fiasco. She ALWAYS shines outside the US cause her own home country do not respect and support her.

Mariah's number one issue will ALWAYS be not trusting herself with the notes/being tense. Since she was at the top, every single time she's made a mistake on stage the media has mocked her relentlessly. Because of this she's TERRIFIED of messing up even a tiny bit - so even now that her voice is back on track (obviously not as perfect as when she was in her 20s but that's to be expected) she's still constantly tense and holding back.

Performances like the one she just had at the Royal Albert where she was just having fun prove she's still got it.

Fly Like A Bird is her tribute to God, who gave her such a precious gift: The Voice. That's why in the song she shown up many things her voice can do: belting, vibrato, riffs and runs from low to high, growling, up-scaling, cresendo, especially whistle, which is also her signature, not to mention crazy transition from chest-head-whistle, phrasing in whistle and much more.

All hail the Songbird Supreme
The Queen Mariah Carey

Fly Like a bird is one of the hardest song especially Live.

She nailed it live.😭😭😭
I grew up listening to her. And for me, she has proven herself for the past years. She is a living Legend.

P.S
she set the standard for whistle register.

As a die-hard Mariah fan, I completely agree with everything you said. Mariah is so keen on not making a mistake, and she gets nervous almost and it's unfortunate. The media really destroyed her confidence

If It’s Over at the grammys is one of her best technical performances

I have always thought she got more comfortable here when the choir came in. She was able to let it get to go to church and focus on her emotions more instead of on her performance, and she really flew!

So many people talk bad about her but I've been to 2 of her concerts in the past year and she is amazing live especially with her new album because she stayed in her comfort zone and just blew the house down she's still an amazing singer period and deserves the respect of how much talent she has even on her worst day she's probably better than most out there

Mariah sang that song like her life is at stake. Such a beautiful performance. She's moving around the stage and even twirled.

I totally agree with your review.
Mariah was struggling in the beginning. It even made me nervous. Like she couldn't deliver what the audience was expecting from her.
The choir definitely made the difference. Then we saw the real deal. Mariah is amazing in that part of her performance!

I feel like on We Belong Together she was more nervous because it was her big #1 hit, everybody knew what to expect, while Fly Like a Bird was her album cut, it was gospel-like, she feels more confortable singing it and, as you said, she had the choir to back her up. Up to now it's still one of her best performances, stage-presence wise (Fly like a bird)

When you see Clive Davis giving somebody a standing ovation, you know that it was a performance done right.
