Drinking excess water at night is a symptom of type 1 diabetes. I did that alot.and it was picked up way too late. I could have died.

If anything, that lovely father of yours might have issue of anxiety. Do communicate with him better so that you can figure out how to help him go through the episodes, or maybe a way to remind him to be in control of his negative thoughts.
