The FAANG Outlook In 2023

FAANG companies (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, etc.) have been going through a tough time lately, with many layoffs, hiring freezes, and rescinded offers. But what's the FAANG outlook for 2023? Will these companies continue to struggle? Will they get back to hiring aggressively?

Well this take did not turn out. 18k layoffs at amazon, 12k at google, 10k at microsoft since this was uploaded. FAANG is in a disastrous state.

there are rumours of people who have gotten laid off from amazon in november, found a new role at the company internally, and are getting laid off again this week 💀💀💀
good analysis, high hopes for 2023

I agree with you on this. Right now, it’s probably a perfect time to prepare for interviews. I had some interviews here and there recently but hiring is definitely slow.

Clement, so did you record this before the announcement from Amazon layoff and Microsoft layoff today 1/18/2023? Might need to delete this video and upload another one that is updated.

Shit take right after layoffs at Seattle, compounded with layoffs at google right after...kinda insensitive

Yeah what I'm seeing in my area today (granted, my region isn't great for tech) looks like a huge amount of companies all want senior-level (and often *very* senior) software engineering experience and responsibilities for low end mid-level pay, and that's not an exaggeration. I know that's a common complaint, that companies demand senior experience for junior pay, but last year I was seeing a lot of demand for mid-level roles with reasonable requirements and good budget ranges, and the pay offered for senior roles was very high.

I'm not even going to mention companies trying to force everyone back into the office now that the new year has started, all because remote work made them uncomfortable.

I'm hoping this all doesn't last long lol

The way we talk about AOL now is how people will talk about Facebook in a few years.

If Amazon and Microsoft are laying off thousands of people, would it make any sense to start hiring in Q2 again? Or, maybe they are firing non technical roles?

Last year I've failed an interview with Microsoft. And after I got serious in the preparation and invested so much in it. All of the sudden everything froze. 🙂

I just checked mail today and found that Google, Microsoft and Tesla has open positions. That is clear, after firing they need to replace some engineers. But my expectation about stock market - it will go down and even if hiring will go on big tech will repeat second layoff if they will need. This is natural for economical cycle. If crises will be over than market will go up and big tech will continue hiring.
