Tampa Bay-area counties under mandatory evacuation orders due to Hurricane Milton

Currently, forecasters believe Milton will become a major hurricane before making landfall along Florida's west coast this week.

I flew to tampa today picked up my grandbabies and daughter in law and are on the road back to Ga.

A Native Floridian of 41 years, I have never left for any storm ever. But, this one is making me nervous enough. Please people, do not forget your pets. Secure them, do not abandon them or leave them behind locked up in cages. Give them a chance.

Everyone has been through so much! It's not worth staying put! Get out as you can and take care of those pets. All those debris and damage already! We do not need to hear of more devistation. It takes the sun up and a birds eye view to see the after effect. So than and only than can you see the truth, but do leave. As a Floridain, I can say things are not like they were in the past. Things are sooo different. Not worth the media or stories or the proof, you are proud. Just take a few days and than go back to clean up! Your lives are more important! Praying for all the leadership! This year is going to be hard! Ugh!

I feel like the storms only get “more severe” because the population and developments expanded so much year to year. It’s not really a more serious storm than previous years just the amount of people and property is up, so the damage and death naturally goes up… and it doesn’t help having less and less natural landscapes that used to help lead water to waterways or basins or be absorbed into aquifers or used by the endless forestry that keeps disappearing.
