The ladder logjam on the road to September is even tighter after Carlton made light work of Hawthorn on Sunday to move just a game and a half outside the top eight.

With Richmond, Fremantle, Essendon and Gold Coast all losing on the weekend – plus Geelong and Sydney drawing at the SCG on Friday night – the Blues are back in the finals hunt after dispatching the Hawks by 60 points at the MCG.

Seeing the blues move the ball with confidence, but also the forwards looking for the better shot instead of just kicking it at goal is the big reason they not only are dumping teams around them, but look like finals contenders. A lot has to go right but with only port and magpies to come and a struggling demons as the toughest opponents, the end to the season looks favourable

Hawthorn didn't bother to play the first half.

Carlton didn't play like a 15th-placed team. In fact, it was Hawthorn who played like that, if not worse. If Carlton can get that juicy upset against Fremantle in Perth, the Blues will still be alive, but if now, season just about over.

As a Carlton supporter, I am not convinced yet. Even if we beat the Dockers in Perth next week, I wouldn't be convinced. Real test come in the week after when we face the Power.
