Heard $900 and realized i no longer need a digital picture frame

Is it technically very différent from a 4k tv ? Cause for the price you can buy tv with a rasberry pie or whatever and program what you want.

I would rather spend $450 on a 43 inch 4K LG 43UH6100, wall mount it, and then spend $100 on an intel compute stick, and then have it automatically use the screen saver wallpaper, and simply load files from my NAS, and then when not wanting it to show random photos, it can be used for video playback, or use with steam in-home streaming.

Best of all, since it will be running windows, I can stick on my colorimeter and calibrate the display for the room lighting. A user can literally buy a 4K TV, intel compute stick, an x-rite colormunki display, as well as a Logitech C922 pro webcam for use with a security camera application, that they can set to not record, but have rules set so it can wake the display when it detects movement, or if the light levels are above a certain point, all for less money than that picture frame. (The money saved, can then go towards some speakers, an extra mouse and keyboard, as well as a game controller for steam in-home streaming).

Good review. It looks very nice on the video but I agree with others here that the greater flexibility of a 4K TV at a lower price would probably be a much better buy.

Several years ago I purchased a digital frame... was just a 5x7, but it had an SD card reader built in... I could load pictures and then it would just play them. Was super simple to use and had a next/prev button on a remote. Not having those features feels like a step backwards.

As for the power cable, you could also use one of the behind wall cable systems that they sell for when your mounting flat screens flush against the wall. They work really well if you need to hide cables, and the power cable would still be accessible since it works like an extension cord, but behind the wall. Of course if you have a brick wall, then things get a bit more complicated.

Thank you Tony for giving out the price at the beginning. Most reviewers aren't that thoughtful. At the price of a Sony A6300, that might be steep for those whose incomes that are not 6 figures.

Tony - something you didn't mention in the review is that unlike a 4k TV, the Memento has a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is the native aspect ratio for APS-C & full frame sensors so, friendlier for anyone who shoots with those formats.

Great review Tony! One thing I thought I might suggest is locking in your camera's white balance when filming, it starts shifting around a lot at the 3 minute mark. Might just be a cloud passing by, but I thought I'd just throw the suggestion out there :)

Tony, you can go to the hardware store, and get wall plates where you can put the wire in the wall behind the picture and drop the wire down the wall and back out another plate and plug the cord in the outlet. By doing this the wire will not show and you don't need a electrician.
