If Rick wanted a “father & son moment“ he should have gotten Chumlee.

That gear shift fail at the end was pure gold.

Back in 1991, my stepson had a VW Beetle with a blown engine.
His mom and I went to a salvage yard and asked the guy if he had an engine for it.
He said, "Yeah, I think there's one laying in the field out back."
We went out there and it was literally half buried in the mud.
We pulled it out of the mud with our bare hands and threw it into the back of my truck and gave the guy $50 for it.
We got back home and pulled the Beetle into the yard and I removed and disassembled the old motor, put the those good pieces on the salvage yard block and fired it up.
He ran that motor for years.
And I think I had $100 into it all together.

I thought when the mechanic told the price $3, 300 to Rick, Rick would say "Best I can do $2, 000, not a penny more."

Hey Corey be thankful you have a father who loves you wants to teach you how to work on cars. Many of us weren't so lucky.

First two cars i had were 69 beetles (bought the first one for $200 from my mother), they had a habit of having the throwout bearing coming off the shift forks, first time I did the work myself, took 5 hrs to drop the engine, reseat the bearing, and reinstall the engine. By the third time, I had the whole process down to an hour.

Other than leaking oil out the crankshaft (I was a VW mechanic back then) they were reliable cars, cheap to fix and fun to drive.
