I read this book before my universities college introductory python class. The class average was 50% and got a 99%. Not great for theory, but amazing for quickly learning how to code in Python.

I've about finished Zed's Python course and I think this is a fair review. I usually struggle with drilling mental tasks but it has done wonders for my ability to concentrate and I think for certain people with certain mindsets, this book is going to be very effective. As a juggling instructor I recognise some of the techniques Zed Shaw uses: under the hood, his teaching technique is rock solid.

Well I have to say for me it was the most effective way because I struggled a lot to get the basics down. Even to the point that I thought "Damn, I must be way to dumb to understand this". But the real struggle is always to find a way to learn that suits you. I can totally understand that some people might think that this book is horrible. But in all honesty if you like this style of learning it's really good. BTW I had to laugh out loud serval times due to the humour of the author which makes for even a more pleasant experience.

1:17 "It's a bit of a boring way to learn" hence the title Learn Python the **Hard Way** It's the Boot Camp of Books, It is like the movie from the 80s - The Karate Kid where the lead character Daniel has a Karate Teacher Mr. Miyagi who teaches his student by having him do boring stuff.

I'm abouth 1/3 through the book, and for me as someone who knew the basic programming concepts from learning JavaScript as the first language it's absolutely amazing. Doesn't dwell too much on theory and throws you straight into the real stuff. Learn programming by doing it is the name of the book.

Thank you for the review. Liked the book and also created a video series for the exercises in the book.

Best entry level programming book in my biased opinion. Coding is a hands on skill. You should learn what is relevant to your use case as you go. Learning by transference is the most effective learning technique. This book follows that approach and leads you to basic python proficiency in short order. 👍👍

I absolutely love this book, it's really effective, and he's actually very fun. I'm studying civil engineering and coding and automating some repetitive calculations and verification saves lot of time and energy. I'm actually able to create my own programs ... especially if this book is combine with basic knowledge of python for excel...it's like having superpowers .
I would recommend this book without hesitation.

This lead me to look up Zed Shaw, and I found a lecture called the The ACL is Dead, and found it enjoyable, funny and I learnt a few things, so thanks PP, also I like the book concept.
