Quantum Information Panpsychism Explained | Federico Faggin

CPU inventor and physicist Federico Faggin, together with Prof. Giacomo Mauro D'Ariano, proposes that consciousness is not an emergent property of the brain, but a fundamental aspect of reality itself: quantum fields are conscious and have free will. In this theory, our physical body is a quantum-classical ‘machine,’ operated by free will decisions of quantum fields. Faggin calls the theory 'Quantum Information Panpsychism' (QIP) and claims that it can give us testable predictions in the near future. If the theory is correct, it not only will be the most accurate theory of consciousness, it will also solve mysteries around the interpretation of quantum mechanics.

In 2007 I began having spiritual experiences after I learned to meditate. At the time I thought I was going crazy and could not talk about it to anyone. It is such a relief and a joy to hear a great scientist talking about consciousness this way. I had one experience where I became the observer and the observed. Yes, experience does change us. I was walking with my wife when I began to feel electrical sparks of energy coursing through my body. I kept shaking my arms asking my wife, "What is this electrical energy I'm feeling." Soon I could not walk because the energy was taking over. I fell to the ground and immense energy began pouring into me. I felt as if a giant hose of energy was stuck in my heart and I was expanding like the universe. My wife ran home got the car and took me to the hospital. I was examined by multiple doctors and kept overnight. Tests showed no heart attack. Managing doctor said they had no clue as to what had happened. When I googled my symptoms the one thing that kept popping up was a "heart chakra opening." Not surprising since I had been on a spiritual quest for many years. I previously had experienced ego death and immense love and beauty. Now I say, if you want to have meaning in your life, just love everyone you meet as best you can. That will give you all the meaning you want.

When I was 19 years old, I began having these experiences during deep sleep after I learned meditation. Today I am 70. I have had several of these experiences and for the past 50 years, I’ve been trying to find a scientist, a physicist hopefully, that could claim to the same experience and that’s what Dr. Faggan does.

When I heard the "I am That" at 6:25 it gave me the chills as I have just yesterday picked up Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj's classic book "I Am That" - probability the most transformative thing I've ever read. There are no coincidences.

4:20 - Wow I had the exact same experience at the age of 17. I had been dabbling in questions of philosophy (on an academic level) and as I was sitting in the car one day, this inexplicable and unexpected experience just occurred out of nowhere! It felt as if my heart had taken a big breath and was about to explode. A profound feeling of exhilaration, love, joy, and peace. I looked at my friend next to me and just screamed „I had an enlightenment! I had en enlightenment!“ I cannot say today what exactly it was but in the moment, everything was clear. Like a deep understanding /knowing of the universe.

I had no concept of spirituality, energy, meditation etc at that time but I literally FELT a bubble of light all around me. This lasted several days. I remember walking the street to school and feeling this bubble of protection, love, and peace all around me. Everywhere I looked, I felt and saw love and peace. It is really hard to describe for the mind to grasp, this is something that needs to be experienced.

Oh my god. I love this. It makes me think of how the Upanishads said the ultimate reality cannot be put into words. And it makes sense why he says that you cannot express how you feel in words because quantum information is not the reality. The reality is only something which you can feel but the moment you try to explain the wave function collapses and there is only a little information you can convey and since that's not the whole and not the ultimate reality so you'll fail in expressing it with words. Hence the Upanishads said you can only experience it. My god I'm losing it. This is amazing
