Ukrainian soldiers repaired on Friday (June 16) a Russian infantry fighting vehicle captured in the eastern Donetsk region during a counteroffensive against Russia.

The transmission and engine of the BMP-2 were deemed to be in very good condition, the latter appearing to have had only 26 hours of running time, according to Ihor, a 66-year-old soldier repairing it.

The vehicle was captured on Thursday (June 15), video released by Ukraine's army showed, as Kyiv said it had regained control of over 100 square km (38 square miles) of territory.

Brigadier-General Oleksii Hromov confirmed Russian troops that invaded in February 2022 had been forced out of seven settlements in the eastern region of Donetsk and in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia.

The army has advanced by to 3 km (1.8 miles) near the village of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia sector and by up to 7 km near a village south of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk sector, Hromov said.

Reuters could not verify the battlefield situation.

So I am of a firm belief that somewhere in every culture in every country in the world, there is a guy with a cigarette in his mouth, fixing automobiles. This person is able to speak perfect sentences, and the cigarette moves, and this person is a grouch, but an expert at their job.

I used to have neighbor who came from Ukraine, and he would take junk that people through away and turn it into useful stuff. Now I see he was not alone.

Good video! Tells you lots about Ukrainian character. They work together to fix the BMP rather than stealing it to sell on the black market like Russian commanders on the other side. This is how Ukraine will win the war, with solid mechanics and real people behind the Ukrainian frontline supporting the troops with all their combined expertise and experience. Slava Ukraini!🇺🇦

This is why ukraine has been kicking ass. While their childen are fighting, average joe mechanics in their 60s like this guy can get any machine back up and running.

It looks like the Soviet era BMP-2 was taken out of Russia’s long term storage by the amount of rust. They had to replace the engine and transmission just to drive it out of storage. They drove out of long term storage, drove it to the railroad depot, drove it to the front line, and then abandoning it; accounting for the 26 hrs runtime on the engine.

The turn around time is critical to get these vehicles back in the fight ASAP. Well done guys. On UK citizen volunteer that is particularly admirable was a tyre repair man, he could fix a tyre on anything. As soon as the war started he went out to help. Absolutely vital work that saves Ukrainian lives every day. Every bit helps. Slava Ukraine.

These men deserve a lot of credit. They aren't on the front line but their service is just as important. They're working with flipflops on and my wife yells at me when I do. Slava Ukraini, Heroyam Slava.
