Oceangate completely ruined the publics perception on submersibles, prior to Oceangate they had pretty much a PERFECT track record with no fatalities over thousands of dives, but now everyone thinks they're dangerous in which some degree they are but it was mainly poor engineering and cost cutting measures which doomed the Titan.

James cameron, the guy who produces Hollywood blockbusters as a means of funding his diving, also the first person to solo dive to the deepest place in the ocean, has stock in Triton. I think this is a sign that their designs are functional.

Whenever I think of the OceanGate accident I always think of the millionaire's reluctant son's last words before going on the one way trip with his father.
