You also need luck. Don’t get me wrong, cbum did a shit ton of work, but you also need luck, for example, he has insane genetics. Also, he had the luck to be at the right place at the right time. The good thing is that almost everyone has at least a little bit of luck.

It’s interesting because I both agree and don’t. When you’re young some kids are told they could be anything (I wasn’t). As I got older I learned that there are a lot of things that you can work very hard at and for reasons you don’t have total control over you might not be successful. Even if you give it everything, there’s risk there. Because of genetics. Because of the family you were born into. Because of luck.

So whether or not you wind up achieving everything you could comes down to both hard work, appetite for risk, and a lot of luck.

I have a low appetite for risk so I chose a path that is perfectly fine (I’m not passionate about it but it works for me and does some good in the world) but I didn’t follow my dreams and it probably isn’t what I’m most suited for. But I have a life I never thought I’d get growing up. I’m stable and comfortable and pretty happy most of the time.
