it seems a bit counter productive for the emergency stop button to kill everyone inside the room when it's actually used

Excuse me? The liquid helium is not released into the room, it's ejected through a dedicated vent.

The magnetic part is real. The part where the women just stares instead of just pressing the off button is very unrealistic.

MRI Tech here, once something like this happens you press the quench red button which releases the helium OUT of the building not inside like the doctor said, also the refilling of the helium is really expensive and should be used only in emergency situations like these. The MRI has permanent magnetic field around it and cannot be turned off any other way. The helium has around -269 degrees Celsius, without it, the machine seizes it self up and stops working. So please, always be very careful when entering MRI room and always tell the techs that work here of any metals on or in your body…

This guy has failed to mention that all MRIs are hooked up to vents. So in the event of an emergency quench the helium will be shunted to the roof of the building.

Yes, but when you quench, the helium is not released into the room. There is a big stainless pipe that purges it on the roof outside. The real reason they are hesitant to quench is because pushing that button is a 15 to $20, 000 event. However any operator in their right mind would push it when a man is about to be sucked into the core

That's why hospitals need to create an air vent system that quickly expels all the helium in the room when the red button is pressed..

Me in my head:FUCKING TURN THE DAMN SHIT OFF LADY. There is no way there ain't a procedure to turn off the MRI machine in a emergency.

They have safety measures. Otherwise, they wouldn't have that big red button.

Bro looked at her with a smile on his face😂😂😂

Couldn't have been that bad, he was smiling the whole time 😊

The lady could have shut the machine off instead of watching. I bet shes the same type to scream as a passanger when a vehicle stops 500 feet ahead in low traffic.

I had to scrub the floor of an MRI room last year while the machine was turned off for maintenance, and I literally had just about an hour after they finished the maintenance before the MRI machine would be turned on again. It was the only way to machine-scrub the floor without any issues.

I’m sorry but you’re wrong here. GE engineer sounding off. While I have heard of frostbite and asphyxiation due to a quench, it’s never been due to displacement of oxygen for helium. It’s been due to liquefaction of room oxygen. The modern MRI or FMRI, quenches through a ceiling or floor conduit to the outside. In recent years, insulation on emergency flushing volumes have been upgraded to extremely high efficiency aerogel mats which prevent the majority of ambient room oxygen from liquifying.

When the "Kill Switch" is meant quite literally.

that machine can stop pretty fast. just cost the hospital alot to have it checked by engineers

This is total bs and someone actually did a similar video with a new mri machine and it only effects metal objects within 2 foot of the machine

The stop button is basicly a instant kill button to stop victims from suffering

Not all are built this way. Also dequenching the magnet it gets discharged out of the building no questions asked. It’s a safety feature it’s not supposed to cause more medical problems just financial ones.

They always make the special helium vent outside for the case.
Because what is the point to have big red button "save life" is it can only change your way to die??
