Why Being Trans Is NOT a Trend | Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria DEBUNKED

Are Abigail Shrier, Sean McDowell, Frank Turek, and gender critical people right to say Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria is real and that gender dysphoria is a social contagion? Why are there more transgender people today? I examine these ideas using current scientific research, and an informed perspective on the Lisa Littman study on rapid onset gender dysphoria.

as a left handed person, i will always refer to the graph showing a sudden spike of left handed people once religious institutions stop oppressing and beating them until they use the right hand. it's as if not being forced by the majority to conform, lets people be their true selves

The desire to fit in and the fear of being judged and ridiculed was what kept me from coming out for my entire teenage years. I spent months trying to convince myself that I was neither gay nor non-binary, simply because I didn't want to be hated and shunned by my family and judged by my peers.

My mom tried the "phase" thing with my atheism. Well, that phase is now over half my life and counting.

I love that Turek doesn't even get the name of the book right. It's "Irreversible Damage", not "Irresistible Damage"

Not a single trans person I ever spoke to on how and why they came out as trans has ever taken this step lightly. Without exception, they struggled with themselves for a very long time before taking that step. Some still hide their identity from their families to this day. One trans woman I talked to told me how she tried, many times, to be a boy or man, because she knew that being cis would have been so much easier - but she just couldn't do it. It made her miserable. She felt like she was lying to everyone when she pretended to be cis.

I'm sure people who call themselves trans just because it's trendy exist. There are certain bubbles where this indeed gives you positive attention. However, these bubbles exist exclusively online, and so I suspect these faux trans people are also an online phenomenon. Trans people who actually come out in real life, towards their friends and family, have thought about this long and hard before they do anything.

McDowell really just said the problem is there is _too much acceptance_ of trans people?!

Why does Frank Turek go against God's design and wear glasses? Surely a person wouldn't seek medical help for a something they were just born as?

Social contagion has always been such a dumb word. You know what's also a social contagion? Culture, as a concept.

"What's the fastest and easiest way to fit in? It's to claim you're trans, everyone will applaud, anyone who says this will be dangerous will be cancelled (etc)"

Just.. No. God no. Those who argue this have never been in our shoes, never experienced what it's like to deal with people who actively want you to disappear. If being canceled is one of your biggest concerns, maybe take a step back and see how little that really matters.

(Edit: I just noticed how negative my comment is, I'm just glad there's so much more positivity in the rest of the comments)

I can't stand it when they use the title, "Dr." He did 60 hours online. I think a GED is tougher to get. My PhD required published papers, presentations at national conferences, a funded grant proposal, a literature review separate from my dissertation, loads of classes competing for grades with other top level students, and an original study of sufficient scope to present and defend to a 5 member committee of full time faculty. This pissant paid a few bucks and calls himself Dr. That alone gets him bounced at the pearly gates. Great video, Drew. Cheers.

I just want to know where these people draw the line of social contagion. Because by a lot of definitions I've seen, religion of any sort also fits in as a social contagion

Yep. People come out for all the perks. You know, like bullying, being beaten up, potential being kicked out of their home and banished by their family.
Yep. Sounds like "fun".

Acceptance
It was like 2008 that I first learned what trans meant.
Before that I thought I was just a cross dresser.

But back then, I couldn't figure out, or pay to do any transition stuff, and I thought I was too tall.
So I repressed, and this caused so many issues, and pain, and other awful things I don't want to talk about.
now a few years ago, I found myself talking with my spouse, and confessing what I've been living with, and she was super supportive.

I'm lucky to have her, but it's absolutely true that the modern climate both enables closeted trans people to come out, and also scares us to be seen as trans in certain places/ways.
There was like a few years there were being trans was easier, and now the fear mongering is taking hold.

As a trans person, i have literally only ever received negative attention for being trans.

That disclaimer about Turek’s doctorate is spot on and very important. More people need to know his doctorate is in Christian Ministry and not psych or medicine.

Sean McDowell angers me maybe the most among the Christian Apologists, because he plays the "nice guy". He's polite, he speaks softly, but he uses that 'nice guy' cover to spread incredibly harmful ideas.

All I can add to this conversation is that in conservative forums and private conversations when you bring up the high rates of suic!de, all they have to say is "good." If that doesn't underscore the point of these campaigns I don't know what does

As a trans man, I fully and heartily appreciate your new spate of anti-trans debunking videos, Drew.

Every cis ally that speaks up for us is immeasurably important right now. Thanks.

Here I can give you first-hand experience on how this works. Back in the mid-90s I made genderless characters in stories, often fem characters and they represented me... I did not know why until 2021. I have always done it I just did not have words for it.

I'm much more interested in seeing a study on ROT: Rapid Onset Transphobia, which has a much better claim to being a harmful social contagion.
