Missing one clip to the housing box, which results in the box being slightly open at the seam (clips side), is this a huge factor as i assume some dirty air may be getting in

I have an 07 Nissan Sentra 2.0 that has an air filter that's connected to the battery tray and the battery connects to a black box that's under the driver side headlight. Do you know the name of the box? What's it's purpose? Also why does the air filter connect to battery, what the square hole in the front for? I've looked all over but can't find an answer. TIA 🤔
