"I wasn't on mega money" Yeah, but you grew up in a time when the state properly funded public services

There is nothing worse than a working class Mail reader.

My parents generation was a time when bus drivers and bin men could buy houses in south london on what they earned. No chance of that today.

As my parents said to me, "We had to eat beans on toast for six months once, we were so poor". That's with my dad working as a sales assistant in Curry's, my mum 'stay at home', a three bed detached house in the home counties, a car, annual foreign holiday... I'd eat beans on toast for life to have what they had.

I cancelled my netflix last month. Patiently waiting for my payday so I can buy a mansion 😌

This demonstrates such a lack of critical thinking that I can only assume the caller was actually a boomer. The lead poisoned generation is really losing it.

People like this caller working hard to further destroy our future. Hope he has kids, hope they hear this, hope they talk sone sense into his naive little nugget.

Tell you what mate - rather than ring into LBC patronising the young, why don’t you actually look at some facts regarding comparative costs taking into account inflation on things like rent, energy, food etc before forming an opinion?

Nah why do that when the Daily Mail can just tell me who to hate and embolden me to phone into a national radio show with ‘my’ beliefs that are based on lies, embarrassing myself in the process. Fool.

i think their generation did not have to worry about unaffordable childcare costs because they had a mother at home to care for children and a father at work to pay the bills.

Boomer Canadian here. When I was 18 I had a minimum wage job. That paid rent for my own apartment, food etc., a car, and enough left over to take my girlfriend out sometimes. Life was incredibly easy back then.

I'm pushing 70 and i beleave its harder today, i feel sorry for young people today..

The reason they blame the youngsters is because they dont want to admit that they have all the money.

The caller is right! The poor just need to make a few savings here and there. Instead of going on 12 holidays a year, cut it down to 9. Or sell one of your houses, one of your cars, one of your Yachts. Simple!

This caller is classic. Top advice there - reign in your £20k salary so you can afford £14k childcare. Reign in your eating and need for shelter while your at it too.

They seem to think that the £8 a month Netflix subscription is in place of affording your own home or eating, it isn’t. It’s in place of the multiple trips to the pub a week that the boomer generation could afford.

That caller might not have been on mega money BUT - he had a funded education system, he and his kids had help with rent, school meals, interest rebate on his mortgage, he and his kids had the option of affordable duration, a health service that worked, a dental service that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. He had rights at work. His trade unions - if he chose to fight for one - had the power to defend his income, his benefits and his pension. He - and others of our generation - sat on our fat, complacent backsides and wished these basic human rights. The least we could do now is show some sympathy for the generations that are suffering from the effects of our greed and ignorance. Our parents generation had none of our advantages. They’d be appalled to see how we’ve allowed them to slip-slide away.

"I wasn't on mega money" yeah but everything was way cheaper relative to your wages.

It becomes easier and easier to understand why they would foolishly vote to isolate themselves... Some are just SIMPLE PEOPLE.

It's hard not to be ageist when it seems older people have no clue and tell you nonsense like this.
