This four part course provides a working foundation in the core concepts of Marxian economic theory -- necessary and surplus labor, labor power, surplus value, exploitation, capital accumulation, distributions of the surplus, capitalist crises, and the differences between capitalist and other class structures. In addition, these core concepts will be systematically used to understand current social problems (including political and cultural as well as economic problems). The goal is to enable students to apply Marxian economics in their own efforts to analyze society and to strategize politically today.

This course was taught in the Spring of 2009 at the Brecht Forum in New York, NY.

Thumbs up all those watching this video in 2046! Few might recall this nowadays, but apparently capitalism was still around in 2018.

I believe they are called Worker Cooperatives. And they do exist. They are companies where every employee shares equal ownership and they all share the profit equally.

As a capitalist, i must say, this was very informative and entertaining. Prof. Wolff is a great speaker, I probably wouldn't have made it through a whole course with someone else.

This was terrific. Thank you Dr. Wolff. I wonder if it is possible, in a capitalist economy to successfully launch a company in which the workers control the distribution of their surplus production - in which they or their elected representatives are the board of directors. Intuitively morale in such a company should be high, along with incentive to produce more and higher quality product. Could leading by example substitute rebellion?

glen922  In that case you would not speak of a capitalist economy anymore.
