HOW TO RESPOND TO "THANK YOU" | #DailyBurk | 072919

David Burkus on how to respond when someone says "thank you." More than ever, responses run along the lines of "no problem" or "no worries." But responding with "no worries" dismisses the gratitude you were shown. Instead, respond with something that acknowledges their gratitude and demonstrates your desire to continue helping.

HOW TO RESPOND TO "THANK YOU"
Thanks for watching. What do you say wen someone says "thank you"?

I have always had a hard time saying "you're welcome, " as somehow it makes me feel that I am acknowledging that I was put out to do whatever it was that I am being thanked for; opted for "no problem" instead for that reason. I like the idea of saying "it was my pleasure, " as that does both acknowledge the thanks being given as well as communicate that I don't feel inconvenienced but was happy to have helped. Thank you for the suggestion!

In Romanian we almost always respond with "my pleasure".. I didn't know it is also possible to say this in English. Good to know!

I guess "yeah" doesn't cut it. I've always thought I probably shouldn't say it, but it always just comes out that way. I'm definitely going to work on saying "you're welcome" more.
