Sir, I had landscapers regrade and install sod on my 1000 sq ft front lawn area. They did not roll, so I did. How many weeks should I expect for the roots to start growing into the soil below? I'm at 2 weeks post install and only seeing a few white roots starting if I pull up an edge.

Hi John, I'd really like some advice please, I had my turf / sod down now for year with and I've got some bare patches now, I put grass seed on top but none of the grass seed grew, some did put that was only where the sod joints are, why is that, why don't grass seed grow on top of dead sod, I tried in the spring and October but not joy at all wot am I doing wrong. Hi.. we have our new sod on a steep incline. The ground underneath is still too soft.. it has been 2 weeks now. Is it time to mow it? Watering it 2 times a day !

I have an invasion of bentgrass so i will be killing my lawn about 3500 SQ ft. In late July. I am trying to figure out if I should sod or seed. No question seeding is much less expensive to apply but of course you need to nurse made the watering. I do have a sprinkler system which is huge. So my question is I believe if i gobwuth sod i would havevto take out the dirt already there vs if i seed i just need to kill the lawn. Then mow low then use my electric dethatcher. Then mow again. So i am not taking any soil out correct? Thank you for guidance and help.

I never roll mine when I lay it and I have never had an issue. I agree that it can be overkill. In Australia we use kikuyu which is almost impossible to kill which helps.

I was hoping to get your expertise on lawns. I am currently prepping my ground to lay new sod. I prepped my ground last week. Over the weekend, we received heavy rainfall and now the area is flooded. What should i do? Does this mean i should not lay new sod(when ground has dried up)?

Recently sod was laid in my yard. Underneath I noticed some mesh on the bottom side. Is the mesh supposed to be removed or left?

Unfortunately our retainer wall is just finished and we are going to put down sod. Does first 2-3 days water 4 times a day 5-10 mins? Then cut back? How about spraying with Hydrotain?

My sod is midiron and after a few weeks I’m seeing what I *think* is another type of Bermuda poking through 😭 I believe there was some in the preexisting lawn. Will I just need to accept it and let the strongest survive?

We are in zone 5. We need to 'patch' some areas of our lawn .... how long does it take for sod patches to take root? We would want that to happen prior to our first frost date (October 15).

Great information John. I planted the Bolero Plus in my small backyard area in June. It looks great, but after a couple of weeks, I noticed mushrooms sprouting and 2 areas which turned brown on the edges even though water was getting to them. I applied Nourish Biosol and Penetrate to both and they seem to be coming back. Would the mushrooms indicate that I was watering too much? My front lawn has a lot of Bermuda (unfortunately), but looks really good after using both of those products on it. I’m debating whether to overseed with rye this fall as much of it will turn brown in the winter. While mowing last week, I noticed mushrooms in the front lawn too. I’ve cut the water back a little, but it’s still over 100 here, however with the shorter days, it doesn’t stay hot as long. I have one more application of Penetrate and wondering when is the best time to apply that?

Is it OK to put weed killer on 4-month-old bermuda Sod?

I had Bermuda sod installed and one side is ok but the other side is very brown. I noticed that the company did not till, they said that the sod company they use cut thick and it is considered top soil in the sod. I noticed that the sod thickness varies a lot. Anything I can do? The sod growing company will come out in a couple days, I expect finger pointing.

I live in Ireland, I have bad drainage laid sod three weeks ago and it's still brown, , think I might have over watered it, can I put holes in it and sew seeds?

Hey John! Great information. Just finished a huge retainer wall and leveling of backyard project and have sod on the way. Not a huge spot, but with Late Spring coming, fingers crossed. This actually gave me some great tips. If you read these, what do you think of adding Hydratain on new sod?
