Soundwave - Decaying Honor | Transformers Skybound

Soundwave is usually a pretty simple character to write. In fact, some would say that his character in Skybound is not that different from what we've seen previously. But, I believe, if you really take a second to look into his actions, you will find a bot who is increasingly losing grip on his own honor.

“You kicked my ravage” is so cute and terrifying at the same time. Skybound soundwave is a violent pet parent and I love it so much.

The Decepticons in DWJ's run are so interesting. They see the Autobots as evil, believe in honour, and treat Starscream & Shockwave with disgust for how much glee they take in destruction.

Soundwave also has these qualities, but he moves them aside for the bigger picture. He kills humans to avoid setbacks, not for fun. The sea life is for fuel, despite his awe of it. And he threatens Thundercracker, to prevent second guessing/future questioning of the mission.

To Megatron, this might be what a true decepticon is. An honourable warrior, but one that's willing to cross the line when needed.

If Shockwave had actually thrown Ravage into an incinerator I have no doubt in my mind that he himself would be found in pieces shortly after.

*"You kicked my Ravage"* proves that Soundwave, even though he doesn't express himself much, *most definetly* keeps grudges.

Another moment that shows Soundwave's decaying honor would be his interaction with Optimus! After the battle for the arc, Optimus gives him a chance to end the war and establish peace. Soundwave instead punches Optimus after considering it for just a moment. I think this shows how Soundwave is willing to close his eyes or cover his ears when it comes to moments of possible peace or Shockwave's brutality, since that punch was less of a "no" to Optimus, and more like a "shut up."

"You kicked my Ravage." This is EXACTLY the kind of personality Soundwave should have always had! Loyal to the decepticon cause and genuinely nurturing to his recordicons.

With the direction they're going, I hope we get to see Thundercracker join the autobots or at least become a neutral force.

“You kicked my Ravage.” This line makes me imagine a scenario where Soundwave hunts Starscream like John Wick. Imagine how crazy that would be🤣

I feel like what these Decepticons represent is what happens when honour has no compassion. It's not decayed, it's just without warmth.

The Autobots don't overtly value honour as much as the Decepticons, and yet its their compassion that shines through again and again; sometimes, in spite of what honour might demand. By contrast, the Decepticons being honourable doesn't make them good, since they don't have kindness backing that up.

Soundwave is a character who has more layers than people would think and I'm glad DWJ is doing him justice

Soundwave and Thundercracker are the only two Decepticons who still see the original vision of Megatron, even the visionary himself lost sight of the Decepticon cause

I love the brotherhood between certain Decepticons like Brawl and Onslaught, The Constructicons with Shockwave and even Starscream.

Soundwave's immorality in this series hurts so good. His near-sympathetic portrayal has duped me into wanting good for him and his miniguys but then bud pulls some tragically corrupt deed and oof ouch my soul.

Curious about how loyalty will be discussed in this video because SW's loyalty to Megatron is not yet obvious to me. His promising Meg to Astrotrain once found caught me off-guard. P'aps he was lying. P'aps his devotion is more targeted at the faction. I dunno.

I hope they do something interesting with Thundercracker, he is always so close to reforming or finding something better! One of my favorite decepticons for sure.

The concept of Soundwave being more loyal to the Decepticon causes is something I noticed from the near end of IDW first continuity and in that series its Needlenose that chews Soundwave out for his manipulations. I defiantly think Onslaught overhearing Soundwave and Thundercracker's conversation will snowball into something bigger.

I am very happy with the way Soundwave is being shown in the Skybound comics. Some of his other iterations were shown to be capable of empathy and honor, yet he also consistently chooses to do and say nothing about the less honorable actions of Megatron and other Decepticons. I love that this part of him is finally getting explored!
