How F1 Tyres Are Prepared

The "spin" is for checking if the wheel is balanced and counterweights will be added if necessary.

For anyone who needs to know, I did one year with Pirelli, and the last bit on the video, the spin bit, is actually when they do the balancing. The checks are done right at the end, which is not shown on this video

Fun fact: it is not F1 tires but F2. You can see that because on F1 tires the outside of the tires are covered by carbon plates. In F2, however, the carbon cover is not needed and is not used

Notice race cars have tall sidewalls and small diameter wheels, not rubberband tires like some people do on street cars. Saves a lot of rotational mass, helps keep brake heat away from gripping surface of tires, and actually absorbs some of the imperfections in the tarmac better, and is part of the suspension.

I "hand prepare" my own tires just like this but without the queue. Almost ready for F1!

The OZ wheels looked pretty good, but the news that for 2022, they were gonna have 18" BBS wheels was mind-blowing. I was so excited. They looked so good in pictures and on the concept car, and then they used wheel covers. I don't give a shit about aerodynamics. Let me see them wheels!
