Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

Are the prices of Golf Clubs getting too expensive? Would love to hear your thoughts below! 👇

I was in a PGA Superstore in the US week before last and one of the staff had left out an email from Callaway which had clearly been sent out to suppliers detailing how to broach customers who had been complaining because the black on the sole of the club wears out pretty quickly apparently! The email was saying to tell customers it doesn’t affect performance etc and it isn’t covered under warranty… so if you’re paying £2k because they look good… beware!

Rick - any chance you can reach out to Callaway for confirmation/comment?

The last time I was this early Rick was talking about another perfect set of clubs. 😅

Bought my nephew a set of Ben Hogan Edge CFT irons 3-pw for $113. That's with tax included. Had to give them a try. Really nice feeling titanium faced irons for 1/20th the price. I'm sure Callaway used these as inspiration. Most of their irons are Hogan's with some A.I sprinkled on it.

When Callaway purchased Top-Flite / Ben Hogan they purchased Spalding patents for golf ball, Hogan "APEX" name, MAGNA for the larger ball. Callaway got a steel when Spalding when bankrupt and went to Russell and Dicks purchased Top-Flite brand. I worked there for over a decade and wow! what an education in business, engineering, marketing & sales.

Would love to see some reviews on the more middle price range equipment. Irons, Metals/Woods from brands like Cleveland, Tour Edge, Srixon etc. Some more variety outside of the big 4 or 5 main companies that IS a bit more "every man".
In a sense we know that the big brand equipment is going to be good quality, but maybe some more of the better value for money stuff that's 90% as good, but 60% of the price. Love all the content, keep it up!

Love Rick's description of his own shots. 20ft wide of pub with a PW that's "a lovely shot"

What happened to that Titleist fitting, Rick?

I have a set of Ben Hogan irons from about 2005 which have a titanium face. They are the best feeling irons I've ever hit, including anything from Mizuno. I think I paid £130.

First set of Callaway irons I've been VERY interested in trying. They're gorgeous, expensive, but gorgeous.

Takoma and their like are making inroads on the big boys. Personally I buy 3-4 yr old "new/old stock" I don't think clubs change that much from year to year. Still rockin' my M4 driver, see no reason to change. My irons I bought last year brand new are Ping G410's which came out in 2019.

Really appreciate the honest review Rick! I've been obsessing over these for weeks now but I think you've talked me down off the ledge. The comparison to the P770 really helped. Cheers!

P790 had exact same lofts. Would love to see a comparison. Could get p790s, wedges, and a driver for the same price as these. Wow

I own the black titleist t100 irons and the black held up for a few months. Expect them to look pretty worn and lose that look pretty quickly. My 12 year old AP2s still look mint.

Never been high on Callaway cosmetically - but they have been killing it the last couple years. Thanks, Rick!

1996 Ping ISI Nickel iron set with graphite cost £1485.00. r.r.p no discounts available in those days. I've seen some terrible examples of the black coming off, Callaway talk about this being the most durable of all the black finishes as part of the justification of cost, i.e. buy once and keep these for many years. Clearly they got this wrong and need to address, either improve the finish, Patina is one thing, wear over years and flaking is another. If they can't then they need to quickly bring out a silver finish. And offer those who have already purchased a good trade in exchange and let people decide. If you think it's cool to play well with a crappy looking set of clubs (which can have appeal) then you can buy with eye's open and if you like your stick to look good go for silver. If you ever saw Seve's irons in his bag you could shave off the reflection they were immaculate.

15 rounds in with mine so far.. Performance is great, but I have a silver line showing where the titanium is bonded with the steel(?). I don't really care how they look, but they only look new for a short time.

Hey Rick! Enjoy your videos. Why not have full faced grooves and have dime sized sweet spot in the face of the iron? To me that might justify the large price tag. Keep up the great work. To me you are 1A in YouTube golf!,
