I left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple cabins and structures from the timber on the land. I may have made a huge mistake as doing this at the start of Winter in late November may make general construction difficult if not impossible.

To all my subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

I recommend clearing a road wide enough for your truck. That will be a massive time saver in material transport.

Building site #1 is the best option for several reasons. High and dry being the most important. Deer and most game animals will travel the edges of a beaver swamp comfortably. And those game animals will continue to forage acorns near the cabin, deer love’em. Getting building materials to the site will be the challenge for sure but James, you’re finding your life’s path . . .enjoy the journey & thank you for bringing us along.

The flooding is a sign from Thor, " it's time to move inside the home" my friend 😄

James, you should get some fruit trees, the best time to plant was 10 years ago, second best time is now 😊

idle thought, we're all adults now, literally just building forts in the woods like we did as kids. We never grow up.

Grouse do something called drumming, it's their mating ritual. First time I heard it turkey hunting I thought some guy was struggling to start a lawnmower

I just can't get over the fact that not only are you building this all by yourself, but all the filming and camera angles and editing. Keep up the great work! Drone footage over the boat ride was dope!

I would get the floor installed and move into that cabin now. Then, finish the roof.

From a swedish viking to a fan of vikings :) Go for building the second hosue in the forest!, choosing to build a house in a forest over a swamp comes with several compelling advantages. Forests offer more stable and suitable ground for construction, reducing the need for specialized foundations that swamps often necessitate due to their soft, marshy terrain. Forest environments also present fewer challenges with moisture and humidity, which can accelerate deterioration in building materials and encourage mold growth—issues that are more pronounced in swamp areas.

Additionally, while no natural setting is entirely free from pests, forests generally have a lower risk of harboring insects like mosquitoes, which can carry serious diseases. The risk of flooding is also significantly reduced in forested areas, particularly those situated on higher ground, providing a safer, more secure setting for building a home. Overall, a forest location not only minimizes potential environmental and health hazards but also enhances the overall quality and longevity of housing compared to swampy areas.

The beaver pond is a mosquito and black flies breeding grounds and will be a nightmare!!
Thanks for showing✌

I would suggest having the family go camping a few times in each location to get a better idea of where to build.

Building site nr.1 definitely. Less insect, less chance of flooding, less moisture around the house. Keep up the good work on your homestead. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪

Option #1 and include fly screens for your porch in summer.
