I'm pretty sure Shigeru Miyamoto had that nightmare following the traumatic experience.

Y’know, if I were in the Mushroom Kingdom, I’d want a wrecking ball with sharp teeth that barks as a pet too

having a chain chomp takes "don't worry he don't bite" to another level

I remember someone telling me about Miyamoto’s experience leading to the creation of Chain Chomp, but I didn’t know that the idea was originally going to be used in the Zelda series; I always thought that they were original Mario enemies at first.
Finding Bow Wow in Link’s Awakening DX for Gameboy made me realize that was not the case.
Long story short, Chain Chomp is an enemy that ties both franchises together!

Well that's why I associated these as dogs when I first heard them in Super Mario 64. Heh

Orgin story of the chain chomp: Doggo on a chain attempts to bite someone, and scares the creator.

Some random doggo: I'm about to start this enemy's whole career.

Then he share this nightmare with the world through chain chomps in Super Mario Bros. 3 RPG: Legends of the Seven Stars 64.

PSA: Chain Chomps (as Bow-wows) first appeared in Zelda games in A Link to the Past, found in Turtle Rock, the game's penultimate dungeon.

A lot of comments and even this video seem to ascribe the forst appearance of the Bow-wow to Link's Awakening and it's just simply not the case. It's like saying Skull Kid is from Majora's Mask.

Reminds me of the earthbound boss giygas story

Something mildly interesting about BowWow: the Japanese name for Chain Chomp is WanWan, which is basically a play on the Japanese word for “bark, ” or in this case, “bow wow.”

If I'm thinking right, the Japanese name for Chaon Chomps actually translates to something like "woof woof" which might be why the Zelda one is called "bow wow" since it's the sound a dog makes

The moment he started talking about a dog was the moment I knew oh yeah chain chop

Story: basically he played with a friend and they had a ball go to the other side then the dog tried to bite Miamoto (or however you spell it, im dumb) while he tried to get the ball and thats the short thing kind of.

I remember researching Shigeru Miyamoto for an 8th grade social studies project, and I remember researching this exact topic.
