Today's video truly has some massive news in it as Meta is preparing to change the VR scene forever. So, in today's video, we will discuss the new rise of Horizon OS, how it will replace our current Quest operating system, what it means for future updates and how the Meta Quest store will also change and remove the app lab. We will also talk about new headsets adopting Horizon OS, headsets such as one from Asus ROG, Lenovo and an Xbox Meta Quest Limited Edition. After we are done discussing this, we will move onto mentioning a Lasertag AR game and some big discounts currently happening on the Meta Quest. With more companies now coming out with VR headsets and adopting the Horizon OS from Meta hopefully consumers will have more choice as to which manufacturer they choose to buy VR headsets from! I hope you enjoy this video :D

That fitness headset concept sounds amazing. My mom would love one of those. Opening up to third party headsets is an excellent idea.

Meta is actually becoming what we've always wanted for VR. They are doing the exact opposite of what we feared years ago when they changed the name to Meta. A-mazing.

This play making MHOS available to other manufacturers is a massive W. This is the road to the Metaverse!

Now I'm even more excited for Googles XR event!

There are only 2 headsets you should need:

1) lightweight, passthrough, moisture wicking - casual everyday use and exercise, basically just there to add HUD to your everyday tasks and provide anywhere video/screens to whatever you're doing. Ideally have eye+mouth tracking and allow you to output video images of your avatar for video conference calls without needing a physical camera actually pointing at you.

2) Full immersion track everything hand controls etc - VR deep dive simulation and games. This is for when you need to have full control over whatever it is you're doing in the virtual world. Ideally this will still have some fans and/or cooling options, and also have limb/eye/mouth tracking, but physical hand controls built off of what the index controllers started is a must. Passthrough is honestly optional here, but if you've got the cameras doing inside out tracking, you might as well let it do passthrough at the same time.

Thought the title was clickbait, but Xbox with Quest collab is huge for the near future of VR to the masses.

The laser tag idea sounds awesome if you have access to a large space.

As a traditional gamer coming to VR very recently, an Xbox partnership that mimicked the Xbox button layouts would be very helpful for knowing what to press without peaking under my headset. I also think Microsoft could bring a little experience to controller development for Quest 4.

Open OS platform is wild and very exciting. I bet ROG will make a great headset. I hope I can afford it when upgrade time comes for me.

This worked for Google with Android, I can see where this route would be appealing. I mean they sell the headsets at a loss and make money from the store. More people on the store without them having to actually sell headsets at a loss makes sense. More competition will be good I think, though of course this still ties everything back to Meta's store. Interesting development and really not at all something I was expecting.

damn I saw the headlines and thought they were /open sourcing/ the OS, Im not a fan of the current GUI overall, the new laydown mode doesnt even move the "floor" in apps?? am I doing something wrong? laydown mode just tilts the uni menu more?

I think if these third party headsets focus on their niche and do it well, I could see them being pretty cool, I'd love to see one that is a Quest 3 without MR and OLED panels as I personally never use MR and would love better VR visuals

Did you know on you PC, the NZXT can have gifs instead of the NZXT logo. Something like "Mysticle" etc.

I doubt Apple pushed Meta to opening up to other manufacturers. Google did.
They're currently working on their own XR version of Android and that could be a much bigger threat for Meta than Apple. The Vision Pro is not for gaming and it's $3500 or more. Google and their partners could release devices that are actually affordable. While Google also sells phones running Android, they're mainly the company that builds Android here it gets important, puts their Play Store on every Android phone, sucking out 30% of every sale.

So at this point, Meta can't stop other manufacturers entering this market. When Google just gives them an XR version of Android, they gonna build the hardware for it. So let's assume Meta wouldn't opening up their software. The market could look a lot like what we see with smartphones. There would be a lot of manufacturers, most of them running Google's XR Android with the Play Store and only Meta and Apple having their own store for their devices.

That is NOT what Meta wants. If there will be other manufacturers in this market anyway and they can't stop it anymore, at least they want them to be in Meta's Horizon ecosystem and not in Google's Play ecosystem. They want those 30% from the Horizon Store and they want control over the market with their Horizon OS.

We had a problem with the annoying head cursor for years. Since V65, at least from my own experience, I seldom see the cursor now (it is still there). Seems like they solve the issue after years.🎉

I like the idea to have a headset special for fitness alone. I'm using my Q3 for it often, but don't like to use it afterwards for watching movies. For PCVR gaming I use mainly my Pico4, so in a way I'm already doing the specialized use for each activity.

I'm saving up for the Quest 3, I'm roughly 5 weeks from owning the 512gb version. I had the original a long time ago and have minimal use on the quest 2 but I can't wait to own a quest 3. So many games I want to play!! For me I see no reason of purchasing a limited edition one if it's the same thing. Just a higher price tag. But if it expands the user base then I'm all for it.
