A reason for Tutankhamun's tomb being one of the smaller ones was because he died at a young age like 19 I think, so they didn't exactly have a lot of time to build a larger one

If you can only pay extra to see one tomb, see the tomb of Seti. Better than Tut. Still has many of the colors and just gorgeous and huge

I had a thought.

I think I know why only Tutankahmen's tomb had treasure.

Egyptians had a very involved mythos on how people entered the afterlife. Lots of weighing hearts and transmigrstions, etc. But at some point, the ghost/spirit/consciousness of the dead, moved on. True for pharaohs, true for the workers in the fields.

The pharaohs were buried lavishly, and the goods probably publucally displayed, all going to be buried with Pharaoh. All showing the great devotion, and sacrifice for his well being in the afterlife.

But after Pharaoh's spirit moves on... The priests could reenter the tomb, clean out the goods, melt them down, redesign them, and gift them to the New Pharaoh, showing their devotion and cementing the idea that his wealth came through the priests from the gods. Over time more wealth would accumulate. Gifts would be given to foreign dignitaries, to be replaced with new items from the priests, and it would cycle on, generation after generation.

Except, when a massive calamity killed off everyone who knew where the Pharaoh was buried. THEN, they'd have to start from scratch.

There may have been grave robbers, but I bet the priests usually beat them to the goods...

... Except when things were so bad, the priests were killed off and no one knew where to look, like with Tutanhkamen

But for some odd reason they don’t quite understand what the grand canyon really is and has been for 2000 years and more
